Walther P22 vs Snack Food, and a Fly

Since reading TFB’s article “AK Underwater With Ultra High Speed Camera” from a few weeks ago, I’ve become a fan of the YouTube Channel “Smarter Every Day” where a guy named Destin makes educational videos that are interesting and engaging. He’s also got three kids and makes these videos to earn advertising money to support his family and put his kids through college.

In this particular episode titled “High Speed Fun and a Fly Responding to a Blast Wave,” I was interested to see that the “blast wave” was from a Walther P22 handgun, chambered in .22LR. Check out the video at the 4:10 mark to see this particular bit.

I would have been interested to see other calibers – like whether a fly would survive the muzzle blast from a 12 ga shotgun, but this was a cool first glance.

The P22 is a DA/SA semi-automatic pistol that comes with either a 3.42″ or 5″ barrel, threaded or unthreaded. It comes in a variety of different color combinations.

Destin also uses the P22 to blast away at some Pringle’s potato chips, and he shoots an arrow through the center hole of a donut.

Hopefully, you have learned something new watching the fly react to the muzzle blast.
