Suppressed .408 Cheytac rifle

Bonus style points for iPhone :)

You know someone is serious about shooting when the total cost of their spotting scopes are more than your car.

Yep it's a 6 inch objective and 50x (crazy wide field of view)

the other is a WW2 rangefinder that goes out to 20,000 yards!

More photos here.

By the way, who can tell me how "Cheytac" is pronounced? I have always said "shay tac" ("shay" as in "Che Guevara").

World’s biggest revolver

Many of you have probably seen this revolver before, but I had not. The gigantic wheel gun measures four feet in length!

Revolver 1 2405

It was build by Ryszard Tobys and was modeled after the Remington Model 1859 revolver. It is 28mm in caliber (1.1″)!

Mosin Nagant rifle converted into a pistol

Mosin Pistol

UPDATE: Looks like the above photo is a photoshop. Thanks to JM for finding the original. These obrez pistols do exist and the bottom photo does appear authentic. Wow! Just when you think you have seen it all, you see a photo of a Mosin Nagant pistol!

Go read about it at Real Gun Guys.

UPDATE: AB posted a link in the comments to this photo of one that appears have been cut down to only a few inches of barrel!

Blackhawk barrel takes a beating

Rugerblackhawk

There are at least five bullets stuck in that revolver barrel. RugerForum members seem to think is a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 Magnum. The squib loads could have been low powered .38 Special rounds or very badly loaded .357 rounds. That the shooter did not notice it after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th round is crazy!

It is hard to see if there is a bulge in that barrel, a symptom of a round fired into a blocked barrel. I think if had been a semi-automatic pistol there would have been a disaster. A revolver can vent gas in the gap between the cylinder and the barrel but in a autoloader pistol for a brief period of time the gas has no where to go and the pressure build up would be considerable.

A few weeks ago I was shooting some old .22 Longs out of a rifle which I had not fired them out of before. I nearly crapped my pants after the second round when I realized to forget to check the spotting scope to ensure that the first round made it out of the barrel and hit the target. I was shooting iron sights and could not see the target. I learnt a good lesson. Always make sure you hit the target, especially when you are shooting low powered ammunition.

More Rangers with SCAR rifles

The Rangers were showing off their new SCAR rifles on the weekend.

Ranger Scar

Rangers from 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, G.A. stand at attention on the infield of the Lowes Motor Speedway as they are honored for their service to the nation during the Coca Cola 600 NASCAR pre-race military appreciation show in Concord, N.C. on May 24, 2009. A large high resolution version of the photo can be seen here.
Can anyone tell me what the device attached onto the muzzle is? I am guessing it a device to prevent the gun firing or chambering a round?

Camera mounted on AR-15 lower

I have blogged before about cameras being mounted on rifle stocks. SayUncle found this webpage showing a camera mounted on an AR-15 lower.

Picture 2-18

This is an incredibly bad idea. Not only could people could easily it for a gun-like weapon, but an AR-15 lower is legally a firearm. I doubt the cops would be very happy about it being waved around in a public space.

British Army’s new combat shotgun

The UK have adopted the Benelli M4 shotgun, dubbed the L128A1, as their new combat shotgun. The photo below was taken at a combat display held last week.

The Benelli M4 has been fitted with the 8+1 extended magazine. Along with the rail, fore grip and optics, it is one mean looking machine.

Canadian line throwing AR-15 / C7

Serverp

This recently taken photo shows a blank firing line throwing AR-15 (or the original C7, the C7A1 has an A3 style upper receiver) in use by the Canadian Navy.

I like the color scheme :)

Narco’s tricked out AR-15

Raul emailed me some photos taken in Reynosa, Mexico, which is directly across from the city of McAllen, Texas, after a gun battle with between police and Mexican military and a drug gang. I thought this photo of an AR-15/M16/M4 with a lot of accessories hanging off it was interesting. I have seen many photos of confiscated C-MAGS taken from drug gangs, but never a photo of one that was actually used in combat and the gun is was used with.

More info on the gun battle here.

Thanks Raul for the photo and info.
