Tavor rifle performing well

The IDF report that the Tavor rifle performed well in the recent Gaza conflict Operation Cast Lead. Earlier problems with the rifle jamming have been resolved, Israeli National News reports:

The IDF has completed its study of the weapon’s performance in the Gaza fighting and a report will be handed in to the Chief Infantry and Paratroopers Officer, Brig.-Gen. Yossi Buchner, and to OC Ground Forces Command, Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrachi, within the next few weeks.

The weapon is not expected to undergo any upgrading in the near future because the Ground Forces Command found nothing to improve in it, IDF journal Bamachaneh reported. I.W.I., which manufactures the weapon, asked the IDF for feedback on the weapon’s performance, but “the answer we got was that the weapon is excellent and there is nothing to fix,” I.W.I. Director Uri Amit said.

Homemade grenade launcher

These photos are apparently of a Palestinian using some sort of homemade grenade launcher. It looks like it could be a 40mm grenade in the barrel, or maybe some type of 40mm less/non-lethal grenade like round, such as tear gas.

It appears to work by striking the firing pin (a drill bit) with a stone. I would not want to be within 200 yards of somebody firing that weapon.

UPDATE: DrStrangegun noticed that the size of the launcher is very simular to Russian GP-30 launcher. The Grenade is propelled through the vents you see in the above photo. Much like a rocket.

Glock pistol used at AR-15 foregrip

I saw this at Occupied Nashville:

Glockmount

The device is called a “Univeral Tactical Attachment For Glock 19” and is manufactured by Israeli company FAB Defense.

It mounts a Glock 17 or 19 onto a standard standard picatinny rail and includes a side charging handle for the Glock that somehow attaches to the slide.

Pretty pointless, unlikely to be legally used in the US (because it adds a stock to the pistol), and costs $425!

On sale at Israeli Weapons.
UPDATE: Manufacturer name and website provided by DoubleTapper. Thanks DT.

IDF Sniper Training

DoubleTapper continues his series on snipers.

IDF Snipers are indoctrinated in one of three courses:

1. Four week basic snipers course for infantry units.
2. Three week basic snipers course for Special Forces units’ personal.
3. .50 caliber shooting course.

What is the collective plural of “sniper”? A “shot” of snipers?

IDF Sniper Rifles

The Israelis, and their ancient forerunners, have had a history of snipers going back at least 3000 years since David famously took out Goliath with a sniper-esque head shot.

The Doubletapper has written an article on the history of IDF snipers since the turbulent beginning of the modern Israeli state. Well worth reading.

Field Stripping a Tavor

DoubleTapper has taken photos of a Tavor being field stripped in his kitchen. Very interesting.

Bul Handguns

Bul handguns will be distributed in the US by Charles Daly. They are made in Israel. DoubleTapper has more information on their use with the Fobus stock in Israel (which is not likely to be offered to civilians in the US)

These photo were taken by TalonArms.com at SHOT Show 2008.

Israeli Firearm Laws

DoubleTapper has an excellent write-up about the firearm and carry laws in Israel. It is very interesting.

Iran clones Israeli cornershot

Iran is one of those countries who are not happy when they are not copying weapons designed by other countries. The irony is that they have copied an Israeli weapon.

These grainy photos were taken from a video (see below).

There are a few parts that look different to the CornerShot such as the bottom of the front and the hinge. A lot of it looks the same. Compare with the original:

More Photos of the original at israeli-weapons.com.

This youtube video is very bad quality. The original, in WMV format, is here.

The chinese also developed a corner shot type weapon, the HD66, but it looks very different to the Israeli and Iranian weapon. It is really a QSZ92 pistol mounted on the end of a submachine gun.

M1 Carbine still in use by Israeli tour guides

Apparently the Israeli ‘Civil Guard’ and licensed tour guide operators on tour still use the M1 Carbine!
