This was an old IBM T41 (15" screen) that my brother had. It started having blue screen errors and then whenever it connected to the internet, it immediately shut down (sort of like if it didn't have a battery and the power cord was yanked out of the wall). So a friend and I decided to 'fix' it on Saturday. We used a combination of 22LR, 380ACP, 9mm, and 45ACP pistols. The range to the target was 45 feet. Yeehaw.

I put three rounds of 380ACP through the screen at 45 feet...

If you look closely at the top left and top right corners, you can still see the Windows desktop...

We then took out the battery and really started to pound on it...

Then we laid it on its back and took some shots at the bottom...

At the end of the two hour shooting session...

No wonder it would shut off when connecting to the internet -- it had a faulty network card...

The mouse touchpad doesn't seem like it will be working again anytime soon...

Okay, so we were out on a mission yesterday to provide security/overwatch for a team to do an audit/inspection of a civilian demining company clearing land mines in the Stan.

We get there and are in our vehicles covering the roads for about a half hour. I am sending messages back and forth with my bro who is the TC (Truck Commander) of the vehicle to my rear.

He said he had to poo. I told him he is ****ed because we will be here for another few hours, and he cant get out of the truck because of the mines.

He said he was going to look around in the back for an ammo can.

I thought he was joking.

I told him his truck crew was going to hate him for life…

heh heh

It is pretty funny, even though it is making fun of us and that they do not know the difference between handgun and rifle ammo.

In theory, one could give the 7.62×39 the Ackley treatment and wind up with a cartridge that makes an extra 120 fps or whatever. And I agree that this would be kinda neat in theory because a little extra oopmh at 150 yards would make this a better deer cartridge.

However, let’s think about this a little bit. The allure of 7.62×39 has little to do with it’s ballistics. America is falling in love with 7.62×39 because it’s become the cheapest centerfire cartridge available (excluding corrosive milsurp ammo). At a time when ammunition costs in general have been going ballistic (heh heh) this thing showed up right on time.

Buying specialty ‘Ackley improved’ ammo would probably cost $16 a box or so. As much as a box of 30-’06 hunting ammo. Kinda defeats the purpose, huh?

As far as reloading goes, one of the attractions of Ackley chamberings has always been that you could shoot the regular ammo in it and the standard cases get blown out to the slightly larger Ackley dimensions of the chamber. Then you can reload that brass and you have cartridges that give you the full Ackley advantage.

That’s great, except that the vast majority of the 7.62×39 that is out there is not brass. It’s steel cased, which is such a pain in the butt to reload that it’s basically impractical. Heck, some of it is even berdan primed as well. I don’t even know if steel cases will blow out to Ackley dimensions on firing the way that brass cases do.

It is guaranteed to kill deer just as well as the old fashioned 7.62×39mm but costs 5x as much! Your shareholders will love it!
