Journalists Guide to Firearm Identification

I made a couple of additions and one alteration to Joe's Journalists Guide to Firearm Identification.

Guides like this should be regularly updated with the latest terminology. When they are not updated you get journalists writing nonsense, like we saw yesterday on The Firearm Blog.

.50 BMG necked down to .22

The 5.7mm Xpress (left)

Yes, it is a joke :) If it were fired the force would likely rip the copper jacket from the lead, disintegrating the bullet.

Why we wear shooting glasses

This animated GIF gave me a really good laugh. Sven says it is from a 1990’s 1980’s South African comedy.

The Daily show discusses investing in guns

I rarely watch The Daily Show but I got a good laugh from this video. The biggest joke of course is that its all true.

Much better than The Onion’s take on guns.

Thanks to Sven for the link.

Ammo Dump …

…. literally

Imgp0016A

Post at MP.net

Okay, so we were out on a mission yesterday to provide security/overwatch for a team to do an audit/inspection of a civilian demining company clearing land mines in the Stan.

We get there and are in our vehicles covering the roads for about a half hour. I am sending messages back and forth with my bro who is the TC (Truck Commander) of the vehicle to my rear.

He said he had to poo. I told him he is ****ed because we will be here for another few hours, and he cant get out of the truck because of the mines.

He said he was going to look around in the back for an ammo can.

I thought he was joking.

I told him his truck crew was going to hate him for life…

heh heh

The Onion on hollow point bullets

The infamous fake news / satire website The Onion have made a video entitled “Manufacturer Recalls Hollow Point Bullets That Fail To Explode Inside Targets”.

It is pretty funny, even though it is making fun of us and that they do not know the difference between handgun and rifle ammo.

Thanks to David for the link.

Just what I need, a tactical sniffing dog

You get truffle sniffing dogs, deer sniffing dogs and drug sniffing dogs, it only makes sense that we would end up with a tactical magazine sniffing dog. Perfect to find those lost magazines and brass ;) This photo was taken two weeks ago.

The Mossy Oak Obsession camouflage design that is often used on rifles and shotguns has been licensed to Style Crest for use on exterior cladding. Your house can now match your rifle :)

Stabley Outdoors has more info.

In other news, Behr are offering an evil back rifle paint. Now your exterior and interior can match your AR-15.

The Assault Paint line is likely to be banned in the near future so buy it now! ( That was just a joke, sometimes people don’t get em )

Gunflation

As a child I was taught the concept of inflation with this analogy:

If Joe has 1000 oranges and you really really want one how much would you pay? If Joe has 1 orange and you really really want it how much would you be willing to pay?

I never forgot the story of the guy with oranges that “I really really wanted”. Anyway, here is a modified version of the story:

If Joe has 1000 SCAR 16s rifles and you really really want one how much would you pay? If Joe has 1 SCAR 16s rifle and you really really want it how much would you be willing to pay? Answer: $9500

Michael Bane commented that while the SCAR is cool, 10 AR-15s are a much better!
