It is no secret than Vltor Weapon Systems have been working on the Fortis Pistol, a clone of the infamous Bren Ten. They have just announced that they have acquired the right to use the Bren Ten name and the Fortis Pistol will be released as the Bren Ten.

We have to apologize for the last several weeks; we have been in sort of a self-imposed blackout while we have been negotiating the agreement to use the Bren Ten name. This is something that we really wanted, in order to make the release of our pistol truly the continuation of the legacy – and something that we have been working hard to make happen.

A Bren Ten that is being auctioned at Gun Broker

The Bren Ten, most famously used on Miami Vice (the TV show, not the movie), is chambered in 10mm Auto.

Along with the 4th generation Glock pistol, Glock have launched two new 10mm Auto pistols: the Glock 20 SF and Glock 29 SF.

The SF designation is often mistakenly said to stand for “Slim Frame” or “Small Frame”. It actually stands for “Short Frame”. The SF frames provide a small diameter grip. This makes it easier for people with smaller hands (or in this case normal hands ) to reach the trigger and is more comfortable to hold.

The G20 SF and G29 SF apparently feel a lot more like the G17 in the hand than their standard frame contempories. From the press release:

The Vltor Fortis is a updated clone of the Bren Ten 10mm Auto pistol (Which itself was a CZ 75 clone). It was announced last year at SHOT. This year a final production model has been on display. It will be available in both 10mm AUTO and .45 ACP. It should be on sale later this year (2009).

S&W will be selling the S&W Model 310 NightGuard that chambers .40 S&W and its’ parent cartridge 10mm Auto. Because these are rimless cartridges moon clips will be needed to be used to hold the cartridges together.

This combination of cartridges could be quite beneficial to the budget conscious shooter (ie. every shooter). The cheaper .40 S&W would make a good practice round instead of the hot 10mm which could then be used as the primary carry round.
