A great many shooters who are adults today shared the same dream as kids in the 1980s and 1990s. We wanted to wake up Christmas morning to find a particular present waiting for us, left under the tree by Santa Claus and inspired by Ralphie Parker, as portrayed by Peter Billingsly in the 1983 classic holiday film “A Christmas Story”. You know the one. We wanted an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle. We didn’t care how many people warned us, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” We would have triple-dog-dared you to try to find a better gift for a kid.
Fun fact: the compass and sundial that make this iconic model stand out had to be affixed to the left side of the original Red Ryder stock for the film, since Peter Billingsly is left-handed.
Although many of us cut our shooting teeth on a beloved old Daisy Red Ryder, the exact model and configuration from that holiday classic movie wasn’t actually a production version at that time. While Daisy did once make a BB gun with a compass and sundial (this thing that tells time) in the stock for intrepid young adventurers, that was a different pump-action “Buck Jones” model, and those features were unique to the famed lever-action Red Ryder in the film only. That is, until now. Nearly four decades on, you (or your children) can finally have Ralphie’s special Red Ryder in all its vintage nostalgia, starting this holiday season. Daisy has announced this Walmart-exclusive “Christmas Dream” Red Ryder BB gun with the following press release.
