Last week we reported that an FBI agent accidentally opened fire when he hit the dance floor in Denver.  The agent negligently discharged his firearm wounding a member of the public in the leg while doing a back flip on a dance floor of a Denver club.

The 29 year old FBI agent, since identified as Chase Bishop, has been charged with a felony for his negligence. After completing, the admittedly quite impressive, back flip Bishop realised that his sidearm had fallen out of his IWB holster. As he snatched the pistol up off the floor he put his finger inside the trigger guard and pulled the trigger hitting a bystander in the leg.

The 24 year old man wounded in the incident, Thomas Reddington, has since spoken about the incident calling it “bizarre. It’s beyond bizarre.” Out of hospital and recuperating at home, he spoke to ABC’s Good Morning America saying: “When I saw him do a backflip I couldn’t I couldn’t help but laugh… I thought some idiot set off a firecracker.” Reddington said that he doesn’t blame Bishop: “I don’t want to ruin his life. I just want a private call from this guy.”

Bishop reportedly handed himself into authorities with the FBI initially saying that he would be held accountable for the incident. The agent has since been remanded in custody and today appeared in court in Denver. He faces a charge of 2nd degree assault on Reddington. Bishop is not based at the Denver FBI office but works from Washington DC. The Denver judge granted him the lowest level of supervision and he has been allowed to return home until his next court date on July 10.

In a statement posted on their facebook page Mile High Spirits Distillery, where the incident occurred, said “It is shocking that the only shooting to ever occur at our establishment came about as a result of an FBI agent entering our distillery tasting room carrying a loaded firearm without our knowledge.” They also promised Reddington free drinks for life.
