Let me tell you right away that this product is not designed for AR-15 rifles and it is not anything like a Law Tactical folder. This is a folding stock adapter designed for the firearms that use AR-15 buffer tubes but don’t have a buffer and recoil spring mechanism inside it. This new accessory which is just released by Matador Arms is called Sidewinder.

Nowadays it is really common to see firearms that don’t have to have an AR-15 buffer tube but are still offered with such option: bolt action rifle chassis, AKs, shotguns, pistol caliber carbines … you name it. Obviously, the reason is to make these non-AR firearms compatible with the huge variety of stock options available for the AR-15 platform. Since there is no mechanism inside the stocks of these firearms, it would be even better if you could fold the stock. Matador Arms Sidewinder does just that – provides a folding AR-15 buffer tube mounting platform.

In order to fold the stock, you need to push the side button of the adapter. The Sidewinder will lock when folded retaining the stock in the folded position. To unfold the stock, you need to push the hinge pin head and simultaneously unfold the stock.

The Sidewinder is made of aluminum and steel. The overall length when it is closed is 1.25″ and the folded length is .75″. The overall weight of this adapter is 3.3 oz.

This adapter can be installed to provide either right or left side folding stock. The choice of the folding side depends on any particular weapon system and the shooter’s preferences. Here is the proper installation procedure quoted from the manufacturer’s website:

INSTALLATION

1. Open the adapter and slightly loosen the two screws on the inside with one full turn on each screw, using the supplied hex key.
2. Thread the male end into your rifle (into the female thread).
3. Position the Sidewinder to fold left or right, as you prefer.
4. Tighten the two screws to prevent the adapter from turning.

The final step will obviously be to thread the buffer tube into the adapter and install the AR-15 stock of your choice.
