Mosin Nagant in .500 Smith & Wesson

    500 Smith & Wesson

The .500 S&W Magnum (12.7×41mm SR) is a fifty-caliber semi-rimmed handgun cartridge developed by Cor-Bon in partnership with the Smith & Wesson engineering team.

In an 8.38″ (21.3 cm) revolver with a .500 S&W Magnum cartridge it produces an astonishing 2600 ft/lb. of muzzle energy. The Model S&W500 is still the most powerful production revolver in the world today.

How the cartridge will perform in a rifle I don’t know, but it’s a serious package for sure.

Tromix Lead Delivery Systems (I love that company name!) re-barreled a Mosin Nagant in 500 Smith & Wesson, and you can see the result in the pictures.

It isn’t the first odd product from Tromix. If you haven’t seen the Tromix Dueling .358 SOCOM Rifle or the Siamese M16 Twin Mag Dump then you should take a first (or second) look.

According to Tromix the challenge is not the re-barreling, but to get the magazine working.

Throw Back Thursday – Mosin Nagant in 500 Smith & Wesson.

It’s a pretty simple job to rebarrel a Mosin Nagant to 500 S&W, but making a magazine box and elevator assembly to feed multiple rounds from the mag….well, that’s where all the work is at.

This conversion has been done in the past by several others, but all the ones that I have seen, were single shots, since the magazine issue was never completed. The barrel work is about 10% of the job….the magazine is 90%.

This gun still looks poor, since the customer wanted to replace the stock himself.

I just did the metal work, installed an aftermarket trigger, and drilled/tapped it for a scope mount.

    All pictures from Tromix’s Facebbok.

It would be interesting to see what the ballistics of the bullet looks like in this rifle.

Below is a video of another rebuild. Not the best video, but the recoil doesn’t look too bad.
