IMI Defense KIDON Pistol to Carbine Conversion Kit (1)

The idea of converting the handguns into carbines is quite popular among Israeli firearm manufacturers. I am sure you know about the CAA Roni and Micro Roni as well as FAB Defense KPOS kits. However, there is another, less known conversion kit called Kidon which is made by a company called IMI Defense. It has been around for a couple of years, however, it is unknown to many people and I think our readers would love to learn about another pistol to carbine conversion kit.

The Kidon conversion kit is compatible with literally over 100 of different handguns. The main design feature that makes it possible is the use of frame rails of the handgun as the attachment point. So as soon as your handgun has a rail, it will most likely be compatible with the Kidon kit. To switch between the different handguns you will only need a different rear adapter that puts tension on the beavertail of the pistol. Here is the list of Kidon models and handguns compatible with them.

In order to install the handgun inside the Kidon conversion kit, you need to remove the buttstock, flip the rail tension tab, place the pistol inside the chassis, close the tensioning tab and attach the buttstock. You can also tune the tension applied to the pistol. To better understand the installation process, watch the video embedded below.

There is also a special sliding part in front of the pistol muzzle that ensures a secure bullet path inside the kit eliminating the possibility of damaging the chassis. As shown in the video, this sliding muzzle device can be adjusted to fit any particular slide length. The non-reciprocating charging handle is reversible to left or right side of the kit.

The Kidon kit also uses an AR-15 buffer tube which will allow installing an AR-15 stock or a pistol tube with a brace. The kit also comes with an angled forward grip and backup folding front and rear sights. There is a top Picatinny rail interrupted by the ejection port. There are also rails at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions of the handguard. The kit is available in black, FDE or OD green color options.

Depending on the version, the price of the Kidon kit varies from $549.95 to $619.95.
