Recent changes to Youtube’s guidelines and rules pertaining to firearms content has seen a number of new video sites launched. The latest, GunStreamer, was launched at the end of March.

The new site’s succinct ‘about us’ page gives little away, simply explaining:

GunStreamer is a user-generated video sharing site, featuring anything related to guns or weapons for informational and entertainment purposes.

In a blog post on GunStreamer’s site Austin Roberts, the site’s founder, explains that “changes in some platform policies are alienating a large population of gun & weapon enthusiasts” Robert’s explains that he and his team are “are hobbyists helping other hobbyists and they have no where to go with these greater restrictions. We’re hoping to change that.”

GunStreamer joins Full30.com, which launched back in January 2015, and the newly launched and imaginatively named GunVideo.com. Unlike Youtube, none of the new sites yet have a mobile app, something which Full30 has promised since 2016.

The new site has apparently been in the works for some time. We spoke to Austin Roberts, GunStreamer’s founder, he told us that they actually “have been working on this for a couple of months. When we realized that YouTube content creators were moving content to other platforms as a ‘just in case’ precaution, we looked around and concluded that there just isn’t a perfect ‘YouTube’ like experience for the gun community.”

Roberts, who describes himself as an entrepreneur with a background in web development, is working with a team to develop the site. One aspect of the new sites people frequently complain about is the lack of a dedicated mobile app, like YouTube’s, I asked Roberts if GunStreamer was planning to create an app. “We are working very hard on Android/iOS apps at the moment, with future plans to support console/set-top boxes in the future,” he said, but he explained that the site’s “web experience on mobile [browsers] is fantastic, and also supports uploading of content directly to the site.”

GunStreamer currently has a number of fairly well known channels uploading videos such as Chris Bartocci’s Small Arms Solutions and the GlockGuy226. Roberts says the new site has attracted content creators both organically and they have reached out to them directly. Roberts tells us his focus now is to build a community and to “build the technology needed for 3 major groups of visitors. Content creators, viewers, advertisers.”
