Federal Premium is one of the largest ammunition manufacturers throughout the world and is often one of the most sought after as well. From weekend range warriors to the men and women that serve and protect our country, Federal Premium makes ammunition for everybody. Very recently they were awarded a domestic ammunition contract to supply the US Naval Surface Warfare Center – Crane Divison, operated under the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command. This ammunition contract was in the amount of $20 Million over the course of 5 years. The contract begins this year in 2018 and they are expected to deliver .40 S&W frangible rounds, specifically with Federal Premium’s lead-free Catalyst high-performance primer.

If that type of primer sounds vaguely familiar you may be remembering it from Federal Premium’s Syntech line of ammunition. To best explain this, I will leave it up to the experts at Federal Premium who are the ones who invented and are utilizing this technology:

Unlike other lead-free primers, clean-burning Catalyst is not hygroscopic, so it won’t absorb ignition-inhibiting moisture and always delivers the most reliable ignition possible. In addition to surefire performance, Catalyst fuels a more efficient powder burn, improving the consistency of bullet velocities.

In the press release given by Federal Premium, they do not give an exact amount of ammunition that is expected to be produced or if the round they are providing is something that could be commercially made for all of us in the future.

At the moment Federal Premium simply, but proudly has stated that this domestic military ammunition contract for the US Naval Surface Warfare is to the tune of $20 Million over the next 5 years.

In my humble opinion, it is always great to see American ammunition manufacturers working to supply American branches with the tools, or in this case, the ammunition they need. Whether it be for training or for service.
