Umarex has released an image of an upcoming new product that will be introduced during the IWA 2018 arms exhibition held in Nuremberg, Germany. This is a .50 caliber CO2 revolver which Umarex markets as a home defense gun. It is called HRD 50.

This revolver has 11 Joules of muzzle energy. Umarex also notes that there will be a wide range of available ammunition. And that is pretty much all the information that is released so far.

There is no .50 caliber ammunition listed on their website. Judging by the low muzzle energy, I assume that to make it suitable for a defensive role it may use something like their .43 caliber pepper dust ammunition. As you can see in the single released image, it shoots round balls.

As seen in the images, the Umarex HRD 50 has top and bottom Picatinny rails and a shrouded hammer (if it is hammer fired). Apparently, it also has a side swing cylinder however the rear portion of the cylinder seems to be a single piece with the frame and probably the swinging part is the thin front portion that has the cylinder stop notches on it. That narrow portion is probably what holds the .50 caliber balls. Note also that the revolver has a Glock style (or should I say Iver-Johnson style) trigger safety.

As mentioned above, the HRD 50 will be released at IWA 2018. As soon as the new information is available, we’ll let our readers know the details concerning this revolver via a separate article or an update to this one.

Interesting to note that at SHOT Show 2018 Umarex introduced a .50 caliber air rifle.
