The Australian company DroneShield has unveiled their latest shoulder-fired drone jammer, the DroneGun Tactical. The company’s latest anti-drone device is said to be more compact than the earlier MkII DroneGun launched last year.

The DroneGun Tactical compromises range to create a more compact package, no longer requiring the user to carry a battery backpack. The new product is now a fully integrated system and is a departure from the form of the earlier MkI and MkII DroneGuns.

The DroneGun Tactical has shorter effective range than the more powerful MkII but is still able to reach out to up to 1km. The unit weighs 6.8kg (15lbs), this includes its two integrated battery units. The body of the Tactical comes in a black finish and has simplified controls with both visual and optional audio user feedback.

A look at the DroneGun Tactical’s controls (DroneShield)

The DroneGun Tactical is powered by rechargeable Lithium-Ion batteries with up to 14.8V of power. This gives the jammer a minimum of 30 minutes operating time, significantly less than the MkII’s 2 hours. The batteries can be swapped out in the field for longer operating time.

The company boasts that the new system is easy to use and requires “no technical training for setting up or use”. The unit can immediately block a drone’s video feed and take control of the unit to safely land it. This allows investigation of the drone’s payload or purpose.

DroneShield lists the DroneGun Tactical’s effective jamming frequencies on their website:

    Effective Jammer Frequencies:
    433MHz (433.05 ~ 434.79 MHz)
    915MHz (Option 1 – 902 ~ 928MHz) (Option 2 – 915 ~ 928MHz)
    (optional) GNSS L2 (1227 ~ 1251) & GNSS L1 (1575 ~ 1605)
    2.4GHz ISM (2400 ~ 2483.5GHz)
    5.8GHz ISM (5725 ~ 5850GHz)

The DroneGun Tactical is shipped in a custom carbon fiber case and has a 12-month warranty. You can find more information about the Tactical on DroneShield’s website here.
