[SHOT 2018] McRees Precision Bolt Action Rifle Chassis

At SHOT Show 2018 McRees Precision has introduced a new bolt action rifle chassis for the Remington 700 barrelled action. Perhaps the most significant feature of this new chassis is that it is compatible with AR-15 handguards.

The AR-15 handguard attaches to this chassis via its 6 o’clock Picatinny rail. It simply slides in and gets fixed in place via several set screws. As long as your handguard has a bottom Picatinny rail and large enough diameter to clear the barrel (which most of the AR-15 free floated handguards should) it can be attached to the McRees chassis.

I think that the addition of AR-15 handguard compatibility makes this chassis much more versatile and gives the users a flexibility to choose from the wide variety of AR-15 handguard options with all kinds of shapes and lengths. It will allow the customers to build a tactical bolt action rifle which has perfect size and shape of the forearm for any particular shooter.

My initial impression from this chassis is that it is exceptionally well made. When you fold/unfold the stock, the mechanism feels just perfect. The same applies to the fit of the 1913 rail of the AR-15 handguard to the chassis. The tolerances are tight enough to eliminate any wobble but loose enough to allow working the folding mechanism or installing the handguard without a need to apply any extra force. It is really something that words don’t convey well – you have to feel it.
