For a while, so much hype had been built around the arrival of the .224 Valkyrie that I was beginning to think that I’d be forced to lump it in with unicorns and the Tooth Fairy.
…Until I stopped by the CMMG booth today during SHOT’s Industry Day at the Range and my new friend Tim changed everything when he handed me a loaded Valkyrie mag and put the MK4 in my hands.
Ride of the Valkyries
Enter the CMMG MK4 chambered in .224 Valkyrie.
- The 24″ barrel is perfect for the distance shooter and salt bath nitride treatment process offers an additional 5000-7500 rounds of life to the barrel.
- The 14″ MLOK handguard steps outside CMMG’s modus operandi of using predominantly KEYMOD handguards in the past.
- The all-new ambidextrous charging handle has inverted wings to allow for easier manipulation of the handle, especially under scopes with shorter eye relief where a traditional M4 handle (even with an extended latch) would be difficult to reach.
Add a Geissele SSAE 2-stage trigger, ambidextrous safety, Magpul MOE pistol grip and insanely cool PRS Gen 2 stock (you can choose either a carbine or rifle length buffer) and you’ve got a recipe for a firearm that’s just as beautiful to look at as it is to shoot.
And the recoil?…wait…what recoil?
As an AR enthusiast, I think I actually own .223 ARs that kick harder than the Valkyrie! Recoil and muzzle rise were practically non-existent.
Gimme Them Digits
With an MSRP of just over $1600, the ability to shoot 1300 yards without going subsonic on an AR15 platform is now within reach.
Better yet, no one has to wait for a lengthy launch process! The MK4 launched about a week and a half ago and begins shipping in about a week (the tactical bacon jerky is just icing on the cake).
