One of my all time favorite rifles is the Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22, out of all the firearms in my safe it definitely has had the most range time. It’s a great trainer rifle, it’s light and accurate and it’s just plain fun to shoot. One of the great features of the M&P 15-22 is it can use many of the parts a real deal 5.56 AR-15 can. Over the years I’ve used a bunch of various sights, optics, stocks, and triggers on my M&P 15-22, all of which were parts from my real ARs that I was no longer using. The only downfall really was the plastic quad rails the original M&P 15-22 came with, it worked ok but it just felt cheap.
The newer model M&P 15-22 has a much improved rail, but the folks over at Tacticool22 have a pretty cool looking 10″ free float handguard kit for the S&W M&P 15-22. As the name suggest, the Tacticool22 handguand is free float and 10″ long, around the same length as the rails that come on the 15-22. It features a top Picatinny rail at the front and rear of the handguard as well as M-LOK accessory slots. The handguard is made out of T6 aluminum with a 1.36″ internal diameter and it weights in at 10.3 oz. It also includes a proprietary barrel nut for use with the 15-22.
It fits the S&W M&P 15-22 Gen 1 and Gen 2, Sport, Pistol and Performance Center models. It’s going to retail for $164.99 over at tacticool22.com.
