Earlier this week this photo has been going viral. Someone affixed their “Own The School Like A Hero” over the firearm display case in the Evansville, Indiana Walmart. It is unknown who placed this sign. Knee jerk reactions are quick to blame Walmart whereas it could just as easily have been a joke in poor taste by a customer. It would not be difficult to take that sign from some where else in the store. Looking at the photo, the sign is not centered on the hexagonal facet of the display case. Which leads me to hypothesize this was done hastily just for the sake of a joke. I am not sure how far Walmart will take this. They have already publicly apologized for this issue. Since it is the firearm department, I suspect that they will have security cameras and will find out who put this sign up.

      A bunch of brits?

      • Anonymoose

Those are American politicians from the 80s, including Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.

        • supergun

But some of these have more brit blood in them than the rest. Remember, the Americans had to beat the brits without the help of many that wanted to stay under british rule.

          • Anonymoose

Are you suggesting that Margaret Thatcher was just Ronald Reagan in a wig the entire time?

          • supergun

I liked Margaret Thatcher. There are some nice Brits. They are not all crazy. But I won’t be a party to insulting your intelligence with an answer to such a question. I would stop if I was you,,,while you are ahead.

I see lots of $14.88s and $6.66s around various stores.

      • Paul Rain

Turn that price down to $6.16, 666 is the devil’s work.

        • Anonymoose

I’ve also paid $45.70 and $30.06 for things before.

          • Haulin’ Oats

I hope it was for ammo or gun related supplies.

          • Anonymoose

No, this was at the grocery.

          • .45

I usually notice $3.57, $9.18, $3.03, $7.62, stuff like that. The list goes on and on, but working retail I get to see it all, especially in the low dollar amounts. I get a kick out of saying it to the customer.

          • Paul Rain

If you don’t have a Southern drawl.. make sure you put one on.

    • Gary Kirk

      Hey, it’s southern Maryland..

    • supergun

      That is good. Luv it.

Oh, boy, here we go again.

Now excuse me, I go watch Jim Jefferies again.

Our local high school has a skeet team.

    • Matt Taylor

Aw skeet skeet skeet skeet skeet, got damn!

      • MeaCulpa

“Man white people are gonna freakout when they find out what skeet means. And when they do it will be like:
Oh my god what have we done”

    • My daughter just found out on her first day in Middle School, that there is an “Outdoors Club”, which covers, among other things, fishing, dressing game, and shooting clays.

Firearm display case? in Wal-Mart? That must be the fail, right?

(*no firearms in Wal-Mart in soCal)

    • Haulin’ Oats

Don’t blame Wal*Mart for that. Blame SoCal.

      • Nashvone

However, we can blame Wal*Mart for deciding to no longer sell any tactical themed firearms.

        • Haulin’ Oats

You can blame bad press and publicity that would have come out of them not pulling the rifles off the shelf after sandy hook. Keeping that one SKU for an AR in stock would have had a negative effect on the stock price.

      • Jim Kiser

No guns in wal mart in MI that I’ve seen but when I cross the border into Indiana I see them.

    • clampdown

No guns at either store here where I am in Middle GA either…hate to say it, but probably for the best. There is a very sophisticated arms robbing ring about, and we are at the epicenter of the opioid crisis in GA. Plenty of better places to buy a gun here, anyway…

  • BillyOblivion

“it could just as easily have been a joke in poor taste by a customer.”

    It’s fookin hilarious.

“…the sign is not centered on the hexagonal facet of the display case. Which leads me to hypothesize this was done hastily just for the sake of a joke.”

Walmart employees are not…They didn’t say “Should take this high status, moderately good paying job as a Graphic Designer, or should I stock shituff at Walmart”.

  • Matt Taylor

“I suspect they will have security cameras….” Who cares? Slap them with a vandalism charge for some dark humor? *cries sensitive tears*

  • Big.Little.Kid

This was NOT in Evansville, IN as originally reported. Someone posted it to our local new station Facebook and they went with it. I live there and our Walmart does not have the carousel displays like that. This was somewhere in Kentucky if I remember right. Not that it really matters I suppose, but just wanted to point out the error.

  • Tom Currie

Why is TFB always a day late with ‘breaking’ news that turns out to be wrong?

That picture is NOT from any Walmart in Evansville Indiana – Yes, a Walmart social media flac did say it was Evansville but they later (still yesterday) corrected that. As of this morning, Walmart did not know where the photo was taken or even if the photo was real. Apparently no Walmart manager has stepped up to say “Oops” and no one involved with the original photo has indicated where or how it came about.

My purely personal GUESS, is that the sign was put up specifically for the photo as a stunt by a couple of the typical kids that Walmart hires to stand around pretending they are working. I would bet that the sign was placed on top of the gun display for all of about one minute for the picture then moved to the back-to-school department where it belonged.

    • Jay Eimer

A caller complained to Walmart that it was seen at the Evansville, IN Walmart, but it was not. Evidently the caller staged it, then lied about it – to include not even telling which store it was!

    • Abc

      I don’t get it.

      • Michael Rice

One (or both) of the Columbine shooters.

      • Haulin’ Oats

I don’t like it. Poor taste.

  • Kirk Newsted

Every Walmart I’ve ever been in has cameras in the ceiling recording your every move. Presumably, if the cameras really work, they should be able to fess up footage of someone putting the sign up.

    • .45

As someone who works retail I know the pain of checking the cameras only to find the perp was just out of frame for every freaking shot. For every moron that shoplifts three feet in front of the camera there are six others that intentionally or not manage to be out of sight while committing their crime. That and every camera system in use by all the big chains these days belong in the 80s. Everyone has high definition cameras on their phones, but just having color is a big deal for security cameras.

  • RazorHawk

Like a hero? So what’s wrong with that?

    • Haulin’ Oats

      JROTC hero.

  • Michael Rice

Probably just a careless employee that was told to put ‘back to school’ signs up around the store. You get what you pay for.

    • Rogertc1

Naw. Walmart has planners that tell one exactly where the signs go from their HDQ. These are than checked and double checked by store management. The the District manager comes in to check too.

  • imachinegunstuff

So I researched this first appeared on Reddit in R/funny. I’d bet the person that put the sign there took the picture. I mean it’s Reddit for god sakes

  • DanGoodShot

Okay, I’m going to start this comment by saying right off the bat I have a very dark sense of humor and I found this funny! Is that wrong? Should I be more sensitive? Oh well, I’m not! HA!

  • Gary Kirk

It could be geared towards the fathers of high school aged females??

  • Michael Hardy

Wal Mart Management: “Slap these in store adverts EVERYWHERE!!”
Also Wal Mart Management: “We will investigate this unfortunate incident..”

  • Looks photoshopped

  • TDog

I find that sign to be horribly offensive!

There’s no “50% Off” sign attached to it! ;-D

  • Mystick

Pretty sure this was placed there by an employee as a joke. A messed up, twisted joke.

    • Rogertc1

      Former employee or photoshop.

  • Um, “Prank” is not the same as “fake news”. In fact, the hypothesis, “Some jackass – whether employee or customer – thought this would be funny and did it without management’s knowledge,” was the leading guess.

    • Rogertc1

Media ran with it as being true and this was fake news.

  • Dan

Skeet is also slang that has nothing to do with shooting clays. Which is what Mea is refering to.

    • steve

loooooooooooool. I can’t wait till he finds out what it means. i also desperately hope he was a big fan of that lil jon song.

      • Rogertc1

URBAN DICTIONARY: “Skeet” is actually a form of birth control practiced by the African-American tribes of North America near the beginning of the 21st Century. Pulling out and shooting. Bet Mea was talking skat. I am sure the shotgun shooting version has racial overtones and needs ban because it degrades the black man. Excuse me, I didn’t catch your name, but would you mind if I skeeted on you? Seeing as how we just met and all, I am not fully convinced that you would make a good mother,… inside of you. Let me go get you a towel.

Use to buy most of my ammo from Wal mart. They had decent prices. But I have stopped all together. They do a lousy job with the sale of ammo now. In fact, they suck with he ammo prices now.
