I had a good chuckle when Mike B. shared this with me. Someone has added magazine extensions on the Remington Tac14 and the Mossberg Shockwave. It is silly but totally functional. Just for laughs I have tried adding a 9+ rd magazine tube extension to an 18.5″ barreled H&R shotgun. My friend dubbed it the Narwhal.

Here is that same tube on my 3Gun Mossberg 930 JM Pro.

Contrary to some thinking, these setups work. Sure the tubes get hit with muzzle blast residue but that is it. Even with bird shot, the shot does not touch the magazine tube.

I don’t know if I would use such a long tube extension on a Tac-14 or a Shockwave. If I were to go all out I think an Xrail would be better. Go big or go home. In all seriousness, a +1 or +2 round extension would not be terrible on the Tac-14 or Shockwave. Of course the best thing is to fill it up with those Aguila Mini Shells to double the capacity without any modifications.

Good luck hiding that under the bar.
And if you need that many shells you work at the wrong bar.

    • Tom of Toms

It is pintle mounted on the auxiliary bar.

    • Anonymoose

If you work at the Yellow Flag, that’s not nearly enough firepower.

    • Gary Kirk

I do believe I may have wandered into said bar.. Consequences of growing up in the ghetto..

  • Rick O’Shay

It must be asked… does it change what’s considered the OAL of the firearm?

    • PK

No, no more than a long muzzle brake would, at least not without a clearly worded ATF determination. It would likely be in the same realm as a QD stock, where it doesn’t count toward overall length, or a muzzle accessory, where it doesn’t count toward barrel length.

    • Gun Fu Guru

      1. Yes, it does.
      2. It does not matter.

    • Flounder

I don’t know. My guess is since it is not permanently affixed then it does not.

      • Mystick

But then again, many barrels aren’t permanently affixed, as most stocks are not.

    • Bill Funk

It’s my understanding that the OAL is measured from the muzzle of the barrel to the rearmost part of the firearm (with a collapsing stock, it is measured with the stock extended).
In this case, if it were not so, the OAL would be longer, so not a problem.

It can be used as a cane

    • hikerguy

I thought it might be good for pole vaulting….

      • Vincent

Or the world’s loudest pogo stick with a few modifications.

  • PK

Has something changed with the M500 and 870? Last time I tried, the super short Aguila shells wouldn’t feed reliably.

    • James

Works for the mossies with something called the Op-Sol Mini Clip

  • TexianPatriot

For when you must troll hard.

  • Anonymoose

Now put a bayonet on it!

    • iksnilol

Are you insane, that’s how one damages the mag tube!

    • Michael Rice

Sir, I’ve got a project I’ve had in my head since high school that you may be able to help with. I call it The Blender. In essence it is a multibarrel chain gun with bayonets mounted on each barrel. I haven’t decided on a caliber yet, but it’s big brother, The Blender XL will be multi caliber (7.62×51 8 barrels, 9×19 6 barrels, 12g 3 barrels) with sword bayonets on the 8 outer barrels and a central cruciform spike.

      • DrewN

If you look at immersion blenders and other such devices it becomes clear the traditional bayonet blade shape might not be as well suited to this project as other, more utilitarian designs might be.

  • Scott Connors

Adaptive Tactical might want to consider making a version of their box magazine conversion kit for the Mossberg that will fit the Shockwave.

  • Gun Fu Guru

We all know barrel length isn’t a problem when shooting hot loads.

    • LGonDISQUS

      Your wife says otherwise. 😉

  • Vitsaus

“Hold my green tea.” so perfect.

  • Cal S.

At what point would the magazine length risk damage from the shot being fired?

    • Ebby123

Somewhere around +20 would be my guess.
Someone should test this… because.. er… for science!

      • LGonDISQUS

        OH MATV2099………..

    • Gary Kirk

      Birdshot, or buckshot?+

  • SP mclaughlin

Did anyone ever figure out if you can put an armbrace on these things? Like the Black aces “weapons” https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/515b4c99e01a8bb741c94f87514bc711354f5cdf12e0ff5b1c40f8e63a0425d0.jpg

    • Dracon1201

Yes, you can. It does not change the classification Firearm-> Firearm. And yes to vertical grips

  • Gary Kirk

For when “compensating” doesn’t quite fit your needs..

  • John

    Where’s the cup holder?

  • LGonDISQUS

My mossberg has a threaded plug. How would an extension thingy work with it?

  • RealitiCzech

Finally, a gun worthy of being carried in thunderwear.

  • Dan

I was think Jay Leno rather than narwhal. Also, Taser contacts on the end of that thing! Perfect for home defense.

  • RealitiCzech

Good. Now do that with a Serbu Super Shorty.

  • Green Hell

I see now you guys had to get really creative after both Saiga’s and Vepr’s were banned.

  • Seth Hill

Instead of “You’ll shoot your eye out kid” it’s “You’ll shoot your mag extension off kid”.

  • Treyh007

Built in eye poker….. if you run out of ammo just poke them in the eye!
