F&D Defense Folding AR! Coolest Rifle This Year | NRA 17

When you work with guns all the time, it gets hard to get excited about every new thing that comes out at one of the shows. Bryan at F&D Defense was showing off the new XAR takedown rifle at the NRA Annual Meeting in Atlanta and blew Patrick’s mind. Using a barrel nutless design with a hinge and latch system, the guys at F&D Defense came up with one of the coolest takedowns that we have seen come to market in decades.

Can… can we SBR it and put a folding stock on it? Lunchbox AR, here we come!

    • PK

What about the folding/QD can mount? And of course don’t forget the folding grips! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/cca215c2cdb6b3fac03320ca2006561747febace668a0958750ab7672eb6acb4.jpg

      • Chris

        You 2 guys

You’re hired, now get to it, make it a thing!

        • iksnilol

To be honest, comrade, I already got half a bottle of plum brandy and a hacksaw. Just need a folding AR and a folding AR stock.

          • HSR47

Plum brandy? Why would anyone drink that outside of Passover?

          • iksnilol

YOU TAKE THAT BACK YOU FILTHY MONGREL! ŠLJIVOVICA IS MANA FROM THE HEAVENS!

          • HSR47

Slivovitz is so nasty that I generally just don’t drink booze during Passover. Outside of Passover I have plenty of scotch and bourbon.

          • iksnilol

I don’t celebrate passover, I don’t bother with holidays (especially religious ones).

But yeah, DISHONOR ON YOU, DISHONOR ON YOUR COW. YOUR BLOODLINE IS WEAK!

          • HSR47

I don’t celebrate Passover either; I observe it, and I celebrate when it’s over.

          • iksnilol

Considering you actually know about it, that puts you in the specially interested group from my perspective.

          • supergun

            That stuff will kill you.

          • supergun

Can you tell me where to buy a bull pup kit for the Mossberg 930 tactical 12 ga?

          • iksnilol

Wouldn’t work due to the recoil spring. Would be almost like an bullpup AR-15.

          • supergun

I know that the springs are in the stock, but there must be a way to make it work. After all, this is the greatest gun Nation in the World.

          • iksnilol

Comrade, not even I have a hacksaw that can change physics.

          • supergun

I believe you do. You are just not sharing it here.

      • Michael R. Zupcak

That rifle looks like the profile view of an animal running through the wild

        • supergun

It looks like I would not want to mess with the owner.

      • Joshua

That would be entering Mass effect levels of folding weapons.

    • Giolli Joker

And chamber it in .458 SOCOM or .50 Beowulf…

  • Hellbilly

Any MSRP on this bad boy? THAT is the ultimate truck gun!

  • joe

Gen 2 Sub2k should have changed the locking to allow side folding. Would fix the only flaw: hard to mount optics and still fold.

    • Cal S.

      I was thinking that too.

  • Michael R. Zupcak

I hear they’re making a special version for Mall Ninjas that can be fired when folded

    • JumpIf NotZero

Single shot adapter for when folded

    • jonp

Useful when back flipping over the Orange Julius counter laying down suppressive fire on neo nazi’s.

  • JumpIf NotZero

    5% handy for cleaning

    95% stupid for effect

    • iksnilol

      100% neato for assassinations.

  • Independent George

Not that I’m in the market for it, but that’s pretty friggin’ cool. I like really well-engineered stuff, even if I’m not in the market for it myself.

  • D

Very cool. Take-down rifles are good for clandestine transport, but If I need a rifle in a hurry, I don’t want to have to put it together first.

  • lostintranslation

    Good presentation……..much appreciated!

  • RSG

Iraqv8888 put out a video on this a few days before NRA. Ver cool concept. What’s interesting is that it holds zero very well and you maintain the option of screwing it together on a more permanent, traditional way. Now they need to make these in sub 6lb AR’s chambered in 556.

  • Cal S.

Get that in an AR-15, and we’ll have us a competitor to the Kel-Tec SU-16*! I might actually be in line for one of those. Not much use for an AR-10 right now.

*Trust me, I’ve heard all the Kel-Tec jokes.

    • mrsatyre

Weirdly the video talks AR-10, but the website specifically states AR-15 in 5.56. No mention of XAR in .308 anywhere.

  • Rusty S.

    Nice find, Patrick!

  • Wolfgar

Does the bolt carrier,”bolt” have to be removed before folding?

    • Cal S.

Looks like it was just locked back first to me.

      • Wolfgar

If that is the case an unintentional bump on the bolt carrier release would shoot the BCG out into space.

        • Cal S.

As entertaining as that would be, wouldn’t the gas key hit the top of the receiver and stop it?

          • Wolfgar

Yes it would LOL, hyperbole was assumed. but I would like to know if this could be a problem causing damage to the gas key or to the modified gas tube nipple at the front of the upper receiver. Perhaps the BCG needs to be released slowly using the charging handle after folding, hence my question.

          • Cal S.

If it we’re an AK, that would be a feature. But yes, good point. Guess we’ll find out!

  • Keiichi

    Neat.

  • Tinkerer

Ah, the AR15. When it’s easier to design a folding barrel than a folding stock.

    • iksnilol
      • supergun

All we need now is a folding bull pup.

        • David

Well, the HS Produkt VHS-2 has an adjustable stock as a bullpup.

          • supergun

That was cool. Thanks for sharing that. It would be nice to be able to get a bull pup kit for the Mossberg 930 tactical,

          • David

I’ve seen them for the 500, 590, 870, and Saiga, but not really anything else.

          • supergun

Thanks for info. Actually, the 930 tactical is almost the perfect shot gun. The one without the pistol grip. Easy to carry, shoot, load, and carries plenty of ammo without sticking out. And the price is very good compared to all the other tacticals.

  • 8166PC1

Seems more like a range toy than something that would be practical for military and law enforcement

  • jonp

Got no use for this. That is why i’m getting one. Way awesome

  • Tom Currie

    Y A W N !

  • Vet for Trump

    So, a break barrel AR.
Bet it doubles the price over a standard AR.

  • GearHead

I really want a sbr AR15 of this.

  • pun&gun

Add a folding stock adapter and use a short barrel (maybe in 300 BLK?) and you’d have a rifle that fit in a woman’s purse.

  • Sledgecrowbar

Shame they didn’t consider the SBR market and make it compatible with the Law Tactical folding stock adapter, but it takes so long to get this kind of thing right they may have started even earlier than Law.

  • Just Say’n

And, the peanut gallery doesn’t seem to be impressed.

  • John

    lWow! A Sub2k on steroids

  • GJNM

Watch for this on the next Jason Bourne movie…

  • Brent Akin

Very limited application for a normal joe like me.

However, for Operators who Operate Operationally, Operating one of these Operator tools while Operating an Operational Operation will cause the Operator’s Operational level to reach maximum Operator status.

  • CavScout

A very technical new product that probably required a huge amount of R&D… and you can only comment about getting it in MLOK and 6.5cm…

    Fads much???
