As a writer, I’m blessed with the ability to get my hands on many firearms platforms and put them through their paces. Most writers, exposed to this plethora of platforms ultimately gravitate to some of the obscure ones for their favorite handguns. Many times, I’ve just about joined them having enjoyed the Walther PPQ, Beretta M9, and H&K weapons. But, as a fan of simplicity, I just keep coming back to the Glock. Sure, I wish it was fully mirrored ambidextrous, but its a solid platform that just works.

Thus, I keep being blessed with the masses of Glock parts for review. Most are useful to a niche subset of Glock users, others good upgrades over the standard gun (it’s not “Perfection” no matter what Glock says), but few are one of those “Oh Wow” offerings…

Holy crap, we one. Its the Code 9 Evolutions Glock Operator’s Tool or “GOT” for short.

The Glock, by its nature, is a simple affair. Just 30 some odd parts, its incredibly easy to field strip and relatively simplistic to detailed strip to its component parts. Sure, one can do it all with only a single tool (a punch), but one appreciates some basic purpose-built tools that make the job easier.

The GOT is just that, a multi-tool that makes the most annoying portions Glock assembly/disassembly smooth and easy. Specifically, it tackles 5 functions:

1. Punch for basic assembly / disassembly
2. Captured striker spring slot.
3. Magazine base plate removal tool
4. Scraping / cleaning slide rails
5. Backstrap removal prying tool

I underlined the three middle for emphasis. Any Glock owner knows these are perhaps the most annoying steps for Glock maintenance.

The Good:

• $20 bucks well spent for Glock guys.
• Magazine base plate removal tools are welcome anytime on anything.
• Finally, something to help clean the slide rail channels!

The Notable:

• Lifetime warranty.
• I guffaw with their pricing and thinking: “Why $20? Because $19.99 is just a lie.”

The Bad:

• About the only complaint I have on the GOT is the punch sticks out from the tool body where I could bend it or it can punch through the storage bag.  If it could retract it or remove and store in the tool body, I would jump for joy.

Final Thoughts:

I’ve reviewed many Glock components, tools, and gadgets. It’s surprising and simultaneously welcome to me how they have evolved/devolved from multi-tools to like the Glock itself, a simplistic affair with minimal parts.

Is the Code 9 Evolutions Glock Operator’s Tool is the ultimate evolution of the Glock multi-tool? Perhaps, but even if its not, its a welcome step in that Darwinian chain. Until something better comes along, the price, features, and ease of us make this tool the one to beat.
