@illmanneredgunrunner707 runs a gun store in Petaluma California. He posted this photo of an RPD with a belt of 7.62x39mm fun. I find it odd how the grip has a kydex thumb blocker. Why? Because California. Actually this might just be a DSARMS Semi auto RPD. Not sure why the ammo is loaded on the wrong side.

  • thedonn007

I believe the kydex is to prevent the use of the pistol grip, to make the rifle legal in California.

  • Graham2

The ammo loaded on the wrong side is due to someone not knowing the first things about RPDs!

    • EdgyTrumpet

Ironically enough, RPD actually feeds from the right.

      • EdgyTrumpet

*the left, never was good with the sides

        • Joshua

I feel like there is a right wing left wing joke here somewhere, trump me if I could find it though

      • Graham2

Back to machine gun school for you too!

  • iksnilol

Russian belt feds load from right side. C’mon, dude.

    • Graham2

Oh dear, back to machine gun school for you!

      • iksnilol

No, I mean, they literally feed from the right side. Like, the opposite of the left side.

        • Gary Kirk

Bad iksni.. Is RPD, women’s gun..
          PKM is man’s gun..
Must know difference at all time

      • Cmex

They’re just laying an empty link in the port.

    • The RPD is a major exception to that rule.

      • iksnilol

I know, I know, I’ll blame overworked student brain on this one.

Not my fault Degtaryov had a major lack of understanding ergonomics.

      • gunsandrockets

        Huh. I didn’t know that.

  • Martin Grønsdal

Did HK start to advertise their new MG line?

  • Topo Solitario

Belt seems to be feeding the weapon on the wrong side… but it is not, it is one of the nefarious techniques of the Spetsnaz, that is, as soon as the not-disposable belt leaves its deadly cargo, the operator quickly reloads the same belt loop one catridge at a time… with Putin like reflexes you can keep the pig spitting lead at 2400 rpm with a 50 shot infinite belt.
I’m surprised you didn’t know that. XD

    • SGT Fish

i thought something looked funny. had to look at mine on my wall to compare, looks like they missed loading a rounds too. must be an HK photagrapher

    • AK

You got it wrong. This is a CALIFORNIA RPD. They load the belt always from the middle, because it looks better on camera with “bullets” on both sides. Additionally, the kydex grip accessory prevents all gun-crime and employs post-production FX interns who digitally remove it from the movie in question. Also, only mexicans need thumbs to grip tools in California.

Sadly, all belts of more than 10 rounds length are a crime to possess in California beginning July 1st, 2017, along with all other detachable “feeding devices” (detachable magazines) with greater than 10 rounds capacity.

    • Porty1119

That completely fails all Constitutional scrutiny in a variety of ways. Here’s hoping that we can start rolling back infringements and imprison those attempting to enforce, pass, and promote them.

  • UCSPanther

I’d rather have a VZ 52 machine gun. Similar to the RPD, but has the cool dual-mode feed system of belt or top-mounted magazines.

  • Gary Kirk

My guess on the backwards loading is so he could close bolt on an empty chamber, and make it look gnarly with the belt hanging out. And take said pic “safely”?? Not real sure if the RPD will keep a Half-link in closed bolt? Not much experience with them truthfully..
