Makarov Pistol New Grip by Russian Company “Dozor”

Newly founded Russian company Dozor produces a drop-in Makarov pistol grip called “PM Grip Kit”. The new grip is more ergonomic and adds a thumb actuated magazine release lever.

Although Dozor grip adds a thumb mag release, it still retains the original heel release. So you can use both ways should you need to. It requires no special skills or gunsmithing to install this new grip on Makarov pistols.

Dozor (3)Dozor grip has a “pebble” texture on sides and horizontal serrations on back strap. The mag release lever is available only on left side of the gun. The grip also features thumb rests on both sides.

The grip is compatible with Makarov pistol and its derivatives: 6P42, IZh-79, IZh-71, MP-371, MP-471, PM-T. It is available in Russia at price of 2200 rubles, which is roughly equal to $34. I think it should not be a problem for the manufacturer to ship the grip worldwide, however make sure to check your local laws before ordering.

Here is a video showing the installation process of Dozor grip:

They also make such upgrade grip for Stechkin automatic pistol (APS). The APS grip has a different texture and adds an ambidextrous thumb release lever. It also has a separate cover plate for the stock attachment rail.

Screw the Makarov, give me that Stechkin!

  • Harry’s Holsters

This is actually a really good idea. A while back a purchasing agent for overseas contractors contacted me about making AIWB MAK holsters.

They were stuck with those as the only thing they could use for whatever reason. In that situation this seems like a great option if the magazine release actually works well. I can see this being affected like a bullpup trigger.

    Interesting idea.
The grip would be great made of wood.

    • Rick O’Shay

      Oooh. That’d look pretty classy.

  • MrFN

FAB Defense??? I’m pretty sure they did this first, right?

    • aeit

I have the FAB PM-g grip and it really makes changing magazines much more easier. You still can use the original mag release too. Well worth the money

    • Dcoil1

Yep. I have the FAB defense grip and I really like it. I wish one of these companies would release a version in bakelite red, though.

  • Rhesus Feces

Anyone know if these will fit double stack make?

  • Gus Butts

Is there a version that looks like the original phallic-shaped grips?

  • Lance

I like the idea of changing the Makarov to a thub mag release.

  • vwVwwVwv

Is it a copy of the FAB-Defence Makarov grip?

  • Blake

This is really cool. If I’d gotten a Makarov instead of a CZ-83 I’d definitely want one of these upgrades.

    • ??

These are surprisingly awesome guns with great triggers. I had one in .32acp.
