.357 Coonan Ring Of Fire

I recently got a chance to shoot my friend Joel’s .357 Coonan while we were staffing a local night match. I saw him test fire it last year and actually forgot about it. So this year I asked him to bring it back out so I could try it and film the RING OF FIRE!!

The muzzle flash seems like a large flash when you are the shooter. But stand off to the side and it looks amazing.

The slow mo feature of my iPhone SE was able to capture the ring.

Got to shoot a #357Coonan #ringofFire #357magnum #muzzleflash #1911

  • Another thing that’s interesting about the Coonan is that because it’s a semi auto it doesn’t have the barrel-cylinder gap that normal .357 revolvers have, which results in much higher velocity. The 6″ barrel Coonan reportedly gets 1800ft/s / 900 ft lbs of energy with the Buffalo Bore 125gr load.

And they are a joy to shoot.

I wouldn’t say “much higher” velocities for Semi-autos vs. revolvers. Not always and it isn’t usually that much difference. And with any gun, it depends on the individual barrel.

Looks like lots of fun. These guns have troubles feeding wadcutters, no?

    • Cesare Renzi

Eh. I’d get semi if I was to shoot them.

    ok, now I need one

True. Try a SP101 snubby with full house 357 loads. You set the overhead tree branches on fire. Pretty spectacular, though
