Timney Announces 2016 Customer’s Choice Offering – Replacement Two-Stage Triggers for Ruger Precision Rifle

Anyone who’s been shooting very long at all is familiar with Timney triggers. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say they make the best triggers available. Of course, there are a couple of companies that make excellent triggers but Timney has always seemed to me to be a step above the competition in most areas.

At the rear of the trigger you see a cutout which the thumb safety fits into. At the top are two sets of tabs that fit into slots in the upper receiver then pushed forward. The final step is replacing the screw in the tab on the right side of the trigger.

Today Timney issued a press release on the 2016 Customers Choice trigger. That trigger is the replacement trigger for the Ruger Precision Rifle or RPR. I received one of these triggers for my RPR a couple of days ago and immediately installed it which took maybe 10 minutes total if that. The video below shows the general disassembly as well as the removal of the stock trigger. The user removes two screws to separate the upper and lower receiver then one other screw is removed then the Timney is dropped in and that screw replaced followed by joining the upper and lower together, test for function and you’re done.

When I first examined the trigger it showed the usual excellent fit and finish I’ve come to expect from Timney. The trigger group also matched very well with the upper. The trigger is also user adjustable as the press release below shows. The range is 1/2 pound to 2 pounds. Being a two stage trigger the user can adjust the pull on each stage. The only option is a straight or curved trigger.

I was able to get to the range for a short while. The trigger has very little takeup, breaks cleanly and has a short reset. It is significant improvement over the stock trigger. The MSRP for all models is $219.00.
