Leica Rangemaster CRF 2000-B Laser Rangefinder

Leica announced the availability of its new laser range finder: the Rangemaster CRF 2000-B. According to the company, this is the first compact laser range finder available from any company that can provide precise measurements of distances up to 2,000 yards. Leica states the accuracy of the unit is +/- 1 yard from 10 – 500 yards and +/- 2 yards from 500 – 2,000 yards in range.

The company uses a 7x optical magnification in the unit to provide good clarity and improve your ability to precisely range the target. Leica uses the company’s proprietary ABC ballistic system to provide ballistic solutions in addition to providing the simple line of sight measured distance. Information used in the calculations include data from internal sensors that measure incline, temperature and barometric pressure.

The computer, among other things, provides an Equivalent Horizontal Range that takes into account the angle of inclanation (see the above image). Information is displayed in a rapid fashion – typically less than one half of a second – in a “heads up” style display.

According to Leica, these compact range finders are waterproof and weigh only 6.4 ounces. The suggested retail price in the US is $799. If you don’t need 2,000 yard ranging and would like to save a pair of Benjamins, take a look at the Leica Rangemaster CRF 1600-R. That unit offers the same Equivalent Horizon Ranging, with a maximum distance of 1,600 yards and EHR range of 1,200 yards.
