Take The NFA Mobile With The Silencer Shop App

image

Silencer Shop has just announced the availability of their new App in both the Google Play and Apple App Stores. Designed to be used in conjunction with the Secure Identity Document (S.I.D.) Kiosks found at participating dealers, the App currently has a few basic functions – taking standard passport photographs, reviewing personal information and providing assistance finding Silencer Shop’s ‘Powered-By’ dealers in your local AOR (Area Of Responsibility).

The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) EForms system was a huge leap forward for National Firearms Act (NFA) applicants, dealers and manufacturers. With a few limitations, controlled items could be made and transferred through the use of a web portal. Approvals were delivered by email and, in the case of Form 4s and Form 1s, stamps were issued digitally. For any other industry, these advances were groundbreaking – during the Y2K timeframe.

And then 41F happened, requiring fingerprints and photographs with every NFA application. Bang: EForms (for consumers) is dead as of July 14, 2016.

Silencer Shop’s response to the new requirements is aggressive: setup a network of kiosks across the country that collect FBI-quality fingerprints from customers. The first version of the mobile application complements the rest of the process by automating the upload of an application-ready photograph. No need to find a drug store and pay a fee every time you submit a Form 4.

Of course, the rest of the process is handled out of Silencer Shop’s headquarters in Austin, Texas. Everything is submitted on your behalf and you (im)patiently wait for your stamp of approval. Their system also includes the ability to send in your fingerprints to be scanned and entered manually if you don’t yet have a dealer with a kiosk nearby.

Silencer Shop is planning frequent updates to the App, adding additional functionalities and further streamlining the NFA process. I’ve had a brief sneak peak behind the curtain and I think silencer lovers everywhere will be very happy with the future plans.

Silencer Shop Mobile App:

From the Google Play App Store:

The most convenient ATF-compliant photo is the one you get to take yourself. The Silencer Shop Mobile App allows you to snap your own passport-style photo that we can print directly onto your Form 4. You can also find the nearest S.I.D. Kiosk and view your registration info. You shouldn’t have to get your passport photo done at the local pharmacy when you have a camera in your pocket. Silencer Shop has made it as easy as log in, aim, and click!

Created to support the revolutionary technology of the S.I.D. Kiosk experience, this initial version of the Silencer Shop Mobile App offers more than a “selfie” of your beautiful mug…

It also provides a kiosk location feature that can be utilized to pinpoint the nearest Powered by Silencer Shop dealer in proximity to you and all responsible persons on your trust. This time-saving perk allows you and potential trustees to visit the closest dealer locale for continuation of your suppressor purchases.
But, it gets even better! The Silencer Shop Mobile App permits registered users to review relevant personal information as needed. Moreover, this attribute includes viewing any changes/updates that we make to your paperwork.

Features Include:

  • ATF Photo
  • S.I.D. Kiosk Locator
  • Registration Review

Our Silencer Shop Mobile App is here to help streamline your suppressor purchases with an emphasis on convenience. With future versions sporting new and helpful features, keep an eye out for the latest unveil of this revolutionary application!

From Silencer Shop’s blog:

Now that our S.I.D. Kiosk units are becoming accessible across the country, we feel it’s divine intervention that our Silencer Shop mobile app is now ready for use, too. (Thank you, suppressor gods!)

With this initial version being photo-centric, several other exciting and useful features will soon be revealed. So, just a heads-up… There’s much more to this technology than a “selfie.” Patience, young grasshopper.

ATF Photo Taker

For many silencer enthusiasts, the all-important photo aspect of the silencer registration process involves driving several miles to the nearest pharmacy or post office for a picture that meets ATF requirements. Traffic, inclement weather, faulty equipment, and long lines merely add to the inconvenience of this step.

Thankfully, those days are over! By downloading our new mobile app, you become your own photographer.

After all, the most convenient ATF-compliant photo is the one you take yourself. Once downloaded to your smartphone, the Silencer Shop app—available at Google Play and the Apple App Store—allows you to snap your own passport-style pic, which we can print directly onto your Form 4.

S.I.D. Kiosk Locator

Furthering the convenience, you can also find the nearest S.I.D. Kiosk via the Silencer Shop app. With 300 Powered By Silencer Shop dealers participating in the initial kiosk rollout, pinpointing the closest location to you and all responsible persons on your trust is a major plus. This perk allows you and potential trustees to save time (and gas money) throughout your suppressor purchases.

Info Consolidator

But, wait, there’s more! After becoming a registered user, the Silencer Shop mobile app also allows you to review your personal information, as needed. Additionally, this attribute includes viewing any changes/updates that we make to your paperwork, so you have real-time visibility to your profile’s accuracy.

Along those same lines, our app will soon offer you the ability to track your existing orders and provides a paperless record of your approvals. No more drudging around your personal paperwork!

Summation

Our Silencer Shop mobile app is here to help streamline your suppressor transactions with an emphasis on convenience. In this day and age, you shouldn’t have to get your passport photo taken at a pharmacy when you have a camera in your pocket. Silencer Shop has made this step as easy as log in, aim, and click!

With future versions sporting new and helpful features, be on the lookout for the most recent unveil of this ground-breaking application

      My fault:

      AOR – Area Of Responsibility.

      Corrected.

Thanks. You’ve earned two TFB Bucks.

It’s going to really bother a lot of people the first time this whole system, mobile and the kiosks, gets hit with unauthorized access.

  • Marvinator

So how many ways can this be hacked? And how secure is all of the data you are putting into a kiosk???

    • Sickshooter0

Probably as secure as the Feds protecting your records.

  • LetsTryLibertyAgain

I remember as a young engineering student, doing my taxes and naively thinking that it would be much easier once everyone has a personal computer. Of course, rather than the same task being automated by technology to save us time and effort, the bureaucracy expanded to accommodate the technology. Personal and business tax accounting became much more complex as a result of this enabling technology that allowed government to become more intrusive and more pervasive. Now, it’s almost impossible to do even simple personal taxes without a computer.

I feel the same way about the Silencer Shop kiosks and apps as I do about QuickBooks and TurboTax. I’m simultaneously grateful that someone is trying to make the feral government’s unconstitutional infringements less burdensome, but I also realize that the easier it is for the feral government to get our biometric information (hi-res photos for facial recognition software and digitized finger prints), the more they’ll make use of such intrusive technologies. I’m tilting at windmills here, but I don’t want to live in a brave new world with convenient kiosks that feed my biometric data to a bevy of .gov agencies. Fast forward ten years and we’ll be required to get a quick retina scan to buy a box of SecureTrace (TM) microstamped ammunition, and if I want to buy reloading supplies I’ll be required to supply a convenient DNA sample and sperm sample like every other domestic terrorist in the basket of deplorables.

Rather than making the infringements more convenient, we really should be working on repealing the National Firearms Act so I can buy a titanium suppressor on Amazon for $29.99 with free two day Amazon Prime free shipping.

    • iksnilol

Mate, we’ll hack into CtOS and remove our biometric data. Then we’ll be able to show our faces in Chicago again.

Also, good luck getting a 15 cm titanium tube for 30 USD.

      • LetsTryLibertyAgain

I buy Grade 2 titanium rod from China for some machined pins and it’s surprisingly inexpensive, even with shipping. I was mostly joking about $30 titanium suppressors, but I wouldn’t be surprised if decent .22 suppressors could be manufactured in bulk and sold at a profit for $15. Heck, we should have integrally suppressed firearms by now. Automobile manufacturers don’t consider a muffler to be an expensive aftermarket accessory. The regulation is what’s behind all of this. Nobody is going to tool up to make a million suppressors to get the cost down to $15 when a stupid regulation adds $200+ (and a lot of government intrusion) to the cost because that severely limits their market.

I think it is still “up for grabs” whether or not the SilencerShop “apps” and kiosks with fingerprints that aren’t from verifiable sources are gonna fly with the ATF.

If I’m gonna wait ~9 mo. I’m just gonna get the photos at the PO and fingerprints at the Sheriff.
