I was perusing a nearby Walmart that I don’t frequent that often. I walked into the sporting goods department to see if they might have 8mm Mauser ammo. They did not but then I saw they have American Eagle .50 BMG 660gr ammo. Huh, never would have thought to go to Walmart to buy .50 BMG. Good to know.

My life would be complete if i could buy 50 BMG at my local grocery.
F#%K my life, why did my parents gave birth to me in Germany and not in the only country on earth guaranteeing it’s citizens to properly protect themselves.

    • TheNotoriousIUD

      Give it a few years.
The gun bug seems to strike your country in fairly regular intervals.

      • Nicholas C

Gun Bug? I think you mean terrorist attacks.

        • TheNotoriousIUD

No, I mean the German tendency to, how do I put this politely….become suddenly enthusiastic about armament.

          • M.M.D.C.

            Delightfully offensive, as usual.

In all seriousness, Europe does look like it’s headed for serious internal conflict.

          • TheNotoriousIUD

            And the South China Sea.

          • iksnilol

No we’re not… *Hurriedly throws some more straw over the Maljutka in the barn*

Well, this time at least y’all won’t blame the Balkans.

          • Rooftop Voter

Oh I hope not. I just cleaned everything on my ZU 23-2 and put it to bed. You know hard it is to do a complete cleaning on one of those?

          • HSR47

Yes, Europe does have a tendency to go zero to boxcar in nothing flat. With the “migrant” situation there, it seems likely that we will see it again in our lifetime. At this point, the only question appears to be which parts certain actors will wind up playing.

        • BobFromPineCreek

To be fair there’s been about 5 separate attacks in 6 years which seems bad but if you compare it to terrorist attacks in France or generic mass shootings in the US really isn’t anything to worry about.

          • Nicholas C

True but look at how big US is compared to Germany. If you grouped all of Europe as one country I wonder what the violence statistics would be?

          • HSR47

That’s something that everyone seems to miss: The US is a huge country with a population of over 300 million people all speaking a common language. That means that something bad tends to happen on a nearly daily basis, and that we all hear about it.

    • AK

You can’t buy .50 BMG in Germany? I think reloading components would be quite easy to source, at least. I know a few guys with “big rifles” here in the north of EU, not counting the collectors who have…something bigger at home.

        • Liberals and Communists trigge

Das ist nicht wichtig, oder? Und es ist auch nicht falsch. Der Inhalt bleibt richtig.

        • Liberals and Communists trigge

Also, wenn du ein Deutscher bist, sollst du diese Scheiße nicht einfach so lassen. Aber es kann auch sein, dass du auch eine linke Zecke bist.

  • Russ Kell

    I picked up a box of 50BMG from walmart quite a while back…just because I could 🙂

    Seriously, I don’t have a 50. I just wanted to say I bought I box from walmart.

    • nadnerbus

It’s kind of like WD40, duct tape, and vice grips. Every man should have those things.

    • Ebby123

Lol.. I did exactly the same thing. The rounds sit in a row on top of my reloading bench, where I can gaze at them and dream of the semi-auto browning M2 I’m going to build some day..

    • Audie Bakerson

I’m considering getting a box if I see one. I think it’d be a nice thing to put on a desk.

  • yodamiles

I can’t see very well (reading this from phone) but is it $33 for 10 rounds?

    • Nicholas C

Yep it is a 10rd box.

    • Anonymoose

      Still cheaper than .338 Lapua.

      • HSR47

Maybe, but that’s not really a fair comparison. This is basically the equivalent of M193, and you’re comparing it to ammo that starts around the rough equivalent of MK262, and goes up from there.

    • derpmaster

I’m more concerned about the 20ga slugs going for $16. Seems ridiculous given that there’s only 5 in a box.

      • iksnilol

So you’re saying to leave the 20 ga in the safe and get the .50 BMG when going turkey hunting?

    • HSR47

That’s actually not a bad price for .50 BMG: It usually goes for ~$3-10 per round. $3.3 per round is actually pretty good.

Look at it in terms of material cost, it’s actually right in line with 5.56x45mm: It’s pretty much exactly 10 times the raw material while also being 10 times the price.

  • Anonymoose

Time to pick up one of those Zastava Black Eagles (Mauser 98 action scaled up to .50BMG/12.7×108).

    • GearHeadTony

      Did you mean “Black Arrow”?

      • Anonymoose

Sorry, I was mixing it up with that Benelli shotgun. derp

    • Nicholas C

For $7k? No thanks. I can get the Steyr HS50 for under $6k and that is MSRP.

      • iksnilol

Rather get a Safety Harbor Firearms R50, it has a 5 round mag and is super inexpensive in comparison.

I like Swiss/German quality but daaaaamn, it’s expensive.

        • Stan Darsh

Considering all the nastiness involved with SHF, you would be better off going with a Serbu 50. Although, the Zel Customs Tactilite 50 is really nice, too.

          • iksnilol

            What nastiness? :O

          • Red McCloud

Gonna butt in and say I once saw a picture of a guys SHF .50 cal where the bolt was sticking out of the side of the bolt channel after a kaboom due to the bolt lugs just shearing off. They may be cheap, but shooting one would personally make me very, very nervous.

          • gunsandrockets

            Yikes!

          • SGT Fish

you sure it was a SHF gun? I have seen pics like that with blood all over the shooting table. but it was a Botach upper I believe. Either way, Mark Serbu makes a great gun

          • Stan Darsh

The guy who owns SHF worked for Mark Serbu parkerizing parts until he went behind mark’s back and opened SHF selling poor quality copies of the Serbu 50 and Super Shorty as well as a copy of Zel’s mag-fed T2, which is the documented kaboom. A lot of people have had nothing but problems, not just with sheared lugs and stuck bolts, but with paying for a product they never received to the point the Florida AG was involved and he shut down the shop around 2013. I was unpleasantly surprised to recently find SHF is open again and still under the same management.

        • FarmerB

Well, Austrian. The Steyr does nothing for me, and the newer M1 model with the mag (+$1900 option) is just downright ugly

Frankly $3.3 a round is cheap – it would make nice “plonking” ammo – the BMG doesn’t do plinking.

  • M.M.D.C.

During the darkest days of the ammo shortage we were at the mercy of the mom and pop gun shops – who all bought from scalpers – who grabbed up all the ammo at Walmart as soon as it hit the shelves – twice marked up, of course. Until we got a Cabelas here in Charleston, scoring ammo at normal MSRP was a matter of frequent Walmart tours.

I haven’t darkened the sports counter at Walmart since. I’m so grateful those days are over, may they never return.

  • TheNotoriousIUD

    Not a terrible price.

  • Chadd

I think it’s more peculiar that I can walk into any of the 4 walmarts in 20 miles from my house and buy at least 3 different types 300black out, 4 types of 357sig and at least type of 338 lapua… I live in Los Angeles County

    • Random fact: All New Jersey Walmart”s that I have been to do not have ammo or firearms.

  • GD Ajax

34 dollar ammo for the ten thousand dollar gun you will never to be able to own.

    • USMC03Vet

Well since I can’t post links, search: “serbu rn-50”

      $1200

      • Lee Attiny

You left out the cost of the property you have to buy so you can shoot it. Good luck finding a range that allows .50 bmg’s.

        • livingonenergydrinks

Best Shot Range in Friendswood Texas allows it on their rifle range, though not sure how much fun shooting 50BMG is on a 25 yard indoor range.

        • USMC03Vet

I belong to a private gun club that allows it. Haters gonna hate.

    • Dan

There are many fine bolt 50cals for way less than 10 grand. I use this cheap ammo for fun or when i let friends shoot then use the brass for reloading.

    • Nicholas C

Actually the semi auto Barret can be purchased for as low as $6k.

      • FarmerB

Maybe the Barret, but not the Barrett. The M82A1 is about $9K and the M107A1 is about $12K.

        • Nicholas C

Look again. At least when I looked last year, my friend was selling a M82A1. I looked around and talked to my FFL. He could get me one for $6k

          • FarmerB

Two problems, well three. I’m not in the US. Barrett are dragging their heels dealing with our country at the moment. And 3) they don’t interest me (my shooting partner has an M107a1)

  • Lance

Sad I remember when they where $1 a piece. Now $33 for 10 sad.

    • livingonenergydrinks

Its these dam Interest Rates! Apparently the FED doesn’t include Ammo prices in their calculations for inflation.

  • zardoz711

.50 bmg in stock and yet I haven’t seen a big box of 22lr in over 4 years…smh

    • Rooftop Voter

Ain’t that a hoot. 50 BMG in stock but no 22LR. To make matters worse, no Walmart stocks ammo for my ZU-23-2. Bummer.

  • Nicholas C

Looks like something Royal Nonesuch made.

    • iksnilol

It is… though I wouldn’t recommend it, seems like a clumsy design. Rather pay a 100 or two bucks more and get a bolt action.

    • Red McCloud

RN-50: Royal Nonesuch 50. It’s literally designed by him.

unless you’re just pulling our legs and in that case B)

      • Nicholas C

Ahh I didnt even catch the RN as Royal Nonesuch. It al makes sense now.

  • To Hell with Walmart, they’re one of the scummiest of the scummiest corporations in the US and make a point of refusing to sell anything that’s Made In America if there’s a Made In China alternative. Walmart has been busted in 36 states for knowingly and deliberately hiring illegal immigrants, working them for two weeks, and when they show up for their paychecks… ICE is waiting to arrest them because the store managers dropped a dime on them and pocketed the payroll (and all the taxes that were supposed to have been collected from it).

    • Liberals and Communists trigge

Prepare to be called an ebil nutzi for wanting to put your land and your blood before other foreign aliens.

      • Liberals and Communists trigge

Also, domestically the NSDAP did nothing wrong. Trigger warning.

        Oops 😡

  • Bob

My Walmart would never have anything cool like 8mm Mauser or .50 BMG…

  • therealgreenplease
