[Lightning Review] GNG Tactical’s Trigger Holster

I enjoy minimalist in most things in my life. I didn’t know I needed a minimalist trigger holster until a buddy of mine got one. I’d heard of the Raven Vanguard (specifically the Lanyard Kit), and I know people swear by them, but have never played with concept of a “minimalist” holster myself.

Another thing I believe in is supporting local businesses. So when I found that a local company, GNG Tactical, was manufacturing trigger holsters I decided to give one a try.

    Construction

Can't get much simpler than this. It holds surprisingly tight.

Can’t get much simpler than this. It holds surprisingly tight.

First off, there is nothing complex about it. It is basically a folded piece of Kydex, grommeted and slung with a short piece of paracord. It is available in a number of colors. The paracord is basically used as an anchor to affix the holster, so when you draw the weapon, as you hit the terminal length of the cord, the weapon breaks free from the holster.

    Observations

My main use case was as a securing option for my Glock inside my Hill People Gear Recon bag. I had been using a velcro based holster (with a main strap that goes over the trigger guard), but there was nothing that specifically would prevent anything from getting near the trigger, and during practice I occasionally had difficulty drawing the weapon. With GNG Tactical’s Trigger Holster, it is a piece of cake to draw. And it definitely holds the weapon securely.

It did take a little bit to get used to the “feel” of it though. At first there is no resistance when you first draw the weapon, and then as the cord reaches the end holster is when you feel the tug. Definitely something you should practice with, but certainly not a barrier to adoption.

    Conclusion

For $20 (each) I can’t see a reason not to grab one while GNG Tactical still has some. If you are interested in picking one up, you can visit their Facebook page and message them at: https://www.facebook.com/GNG-Tactical-1738267879767421/?fref=ts or visit their website (which was just stood up; can’t order from there yet, but should be able to in the next few days) at http://gngtactical.us/
