XTECH Makes the VP9 3-Gun Ready with +5 Magazine Extender

xtech5

XTECH, known for ATG “Adjustable Tactical Grip” has announced the availability of their VP9 / P30 magazine extension. The new extension, dubbed the “MTX” adds 5 rounds to the total base capacity of 15 for a total of 20 rounds of sweet extended magazine goodness.

While this is still less than the common 22 round capacity of other extended full-size 9mm handguns, its still a solid step for those who enjoy shooting the H&K offerings. Here’s to hoping for a +7 round extension!

Construction is listed as “rugged” and the design is such that the front lip is maintained in the magazine base plate for ease of extraction during difficult operations. Installation is tool free (a nice step) and the MTX extension includes a custom spring for the now longer magazine. XTECH lists the extension as patent-pending.

The new MTX is available now. Retail pricing is set at $29.95, which my hat is off to XTech, as they could likely command more than that from the H&K enthusiast. Similar offerings for other common platforms can be nearly double the price. For a limited time, shipping is free.

How about someone should just make an aftermarket magazine that holds 17 rounds? There is nothing inherent to the VP9 that requires it to take only the 15-round mags.

    • Harry’s Holsters

Width of the magazine. The ergos come at a price.

      • ostiariusalpha

That is incorrect. The width of a magazine doesn’t change by adding 2 rounds to the stack. The P30/VP9 magazine is 15 rounds instead of 17 because its transition geometry (the part where it goes from a staggered double stack to single feed) is longer than in other magazines, such as the Glock 17 or M&P 9 use; changing the transition geometry would not make the magazine wider, nor would it change how the mag would fit in the pistol.

No it’s not incorrect but transition geometry also comes into play but the width is also a factor. You’re not going to fit two rounds in the area you mentioned.

Look at why the shield holds more than other guns with a magazine of the same height. It’s a combination of the two. Good eye on the feed lips.

Great to see new options but a similar product has been out for years although I don’t know if it comes with a + power spring though.

Awesome, really expected the price to be double what it is.

Because it’s for h&k, I figured the same
