The Glock 19, along with its close clones and equivalents, is in my opinion the ideal “universal” civilian pistol. Small enough to carry concealed, but large enough to shoot well, the Glock can serve equally well as an every day carry gun or as a home protection tool. These features, plus Glock’s reputation for reliability and durability, as well as the company’s nigh indestructible magazine pattern make the Glock 19 my default recommendation for anyone looking for their first “jack of all trades” pistol.

Let’s shift gears for a minute: Concealing a handgun on your body in an appropriate holster is all well and good, but I find I use handguns in a lot more ways than that. In addition to concealing, I may stash a handgun in a seat back pocket in my car, or I may want a handgun at the ready on or in the nightstand when I rent a hotel room. Since for me, my Glock 19 actually is my “do it all” gun, I also need something to ensure I can safely carry the firearm from spot to spot without exposing the trigger to anything that could accidentally catch it and cause a negligent discharge.

This Praetor Defense OWB holster is a great holster for carrying a Glock 19 on your body, but it bulges and gets snagged in car seat back pockets, doesn’t allow you to draw the gun straight off a table, and requires you to undo your belt to take it on and off. Even though it’s great for carrying, it’s not designed to be a “universal” holster, in other words.

In short, for my “jack of all trades” handgun, I need a “jack of all trades” holster, and recently, I found it. I had decided that my “universal” holster needed to be something similar to a pocket holster, but availability of pocket holsters for the decidedly not-pocket-sized Glock 19 left something to be desired. Sticky Holsters was one of the only companies I had found offering a model that fit my gun. So, while at the 2016 NRA Annual Meeting, I stopped by the Sticky Holsters booth, where they had their holsters there and available for sale. The model they set me up with is the LG-2, and it fits a wide variety of handguns in the general size range of the Glock 19.

I’ve been using the LG-2 daily with my Glock 19 now since the show, and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. It is exactly what the doctor ordered when it comes to a “universal” holster and gun guard. When stuffed in a car pocket, it allows quick and trouble-free drawing of the gun, while also being easy to remove and replace. As a bedside holster, the LG-2 grips a wide variety of surfaces, allowing you to draw the pistol off a table top with just a little downward pressure. And, of course, you can also use it as a pocket holster in cargo shorts or other garments with baggy pockets.

Probably my favorite feature of the LG-2 holster is that it allows you to draw it off a surface by applying a little bit of downward pressure. This really helps the gun “live in the holster”, since I’m not always removing my gun from my holster just to have access to it when it’s on a tabletop.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the Sticky Holsters LG-2 as a dedicated every day carry gun holster (I haven’t tried it with a true pocket gun, which it was designed for), but it has become the essential accessory for my Glock 19, and at $25 bucks, it is probably one of the best value handgun accessories I have ever bought.
