Video With Hank Strange Firing A 50 BMG Pistol!!!

50 BMG Pistol Ridiculous Guns YouTube

Our friend Hank Strange runs a successful Youtube channel and from time to time he sends a video or two my way. I was really glad he sent this one it’s just crazy! Safety Harbor firearms created this monster bolt action 50 cal on a modified AR of all things. Enjoy the video of these two firing this monster pistol!

That has to bleed off tons of velocity having such a short barrel.

    • Yep they mentioned that in the video as well as not burning all the powder most likely.

    • John Yossarian

My guess is that it achieves 1800-1900 fps. That would still launch the 650 grain projectile at about double the muzzle energy of 7.62 NATO.

      • PK

Far too high a guess for that barrel, in my opinion. Out of a 17″ barrel and a relatively fast (for .50BMG) powder, 2200FPS is good performance. Out of a 12″ barrel, you’re not going to just lose a few hundred FPS, not with the pressure and burn curves involved.

I just used an internal ballistics calculator, 1500FPS is optimistic out of a 12″ barrel.

  • Julio

The Internet, where pointless guns find their reason to exist. After watching that I feel simultaneously sullied and enriched.

  • thedonn007

Guess you do not need sights if you are just going to hip fire it anyway.

  • BattleshipGrey

“Only you’re going to have one and I’m going to have one.” LOL, nice try!

  • John Yossarian

I’m in love! It’s the perfect tool to carry under the trench coat in a robot apocalypse.

  • John G

This may be a naive question on my part, but couldn’t a manufacturer making a pistol like this cause an issue for AP 50 cal ammo similar to the 7N6 ban after someone made an AK-74 pistol?

    • truthsayer

      Exactly my question too.

    • Good question—

    • gunsandrockets

      loose lips sink ships;-)

    • John Yossarian

Thankfully it’s only an experiment, and not available for regular sale. Of course, you could always make your own.

    • Steve Truffer

Looks like it’s over 26″, so it’s technically an “other firearm”

      • bull

no. it would be a other if there was a vertical grip.

        • Christian Hedegaard-Schou

Nope. A Title 1 “other” is anything that doesn’t meet the definition of rifle, shotgun, or a “pistol” that’s 26″ long or longer.

Since this is a “pistol”, but over 26″, then it’s actually an Other.

It does not need to have a vertical grip at all. It’s just that legally you can put a vertical grip on a 26″+ pistol and not have an AOW on your hands.

    • Anonymoose

No, that only works if the round is designed to be fired from a pistol, not the other way around, and it only applies to importing ammo. The 7N6 ban is an illegal crackdown on gun-owners, meant to test the waters for when they tried to ban M855.

      • PK

It also applies to stateside manufacture/further sale to civilians of any ammo meeting the AP regulations, sadly, if it’s deemed non-sporting as a pistol. It’s mostly just whatever the ATF decides, if there’s a pistol out there that takes the caliber.

  • TheNotoriousIUD

This is the pistol I imagine God carrying.

    • Jeff Smith

If there’s a God, I highly doubt he/she’s constrained to an arbitrary bore diameter of 0.50″ (unless approved as a “sporting cartridge”).

      • TheNotoriousIUD

Everybody knows God is American, dude.

        • Anonymoose

God carries a pair of full-auto .950 JDJ pistols, because he can just make more solid brass slugs instead of paying $40 for each one.

        • Tassiebush

          he used to be British

          • jerome

He moved before WWII it got to hot and heavy lol

    • Gary Kirk

Think God carries a gau-8 pistol..

    • John

No, God shoots a gun that has bullets made of pure love. Unfortunately, there is almost nowhere on Earth where you can find that material.

    • Budogunner

Wrong religion. This is what the Dalai Lama conceal carries under his robes.

  • Gary Kirk

Wasn’t there another outfit out of Wyoming or somewhere that made something like this a few years ago?

    • Anonymoose

      The Thunder?

    • PK

There was a single shot “pistol” (SBR, people were more than a little worried about AP regulations with regards to pistol calibers) made a while back, yes, but it was far smaller.

  • Martin Grønsdal

is this the 12,7 x 99 ? what MaDuce fires?

    • Gary Kirk

      Yep

  • vwVwwVwv

    love such unique things.

  • Christian Hedegaard-Schou

    100% CA-Legal (If single-shot, not mag fed).

    • Anonymoose

      In .416 Barrett.

      • John Yossarian

And the SHF is mag-fed! Double fail.

      • Giolli Joker

        .510 DTC?

        • Anonymoose

No, because that’s .50cal, and .50cal is evil according to the Cali gubmint.

          • PK

            .499 FUCA?

          • Joby

Only .50 BMG is evil in Californiastan.

      • Christian Hedegaard-Schou

        Sorry. Incorrect.

CA Law only outlaws .50BMG rifles. .50BMG Title 1 “others” and/or Pistols are perfectly legal.

You can still legally buy a belt-fed semi-auto M2/”Ma Duece” in CA, for example, because it’s not a rifle.

(Of course, yes, a .416 Barrett would ALSO be legal. But it would not HAVE to be .416 Barrett in order to be legal)

  • KestrelBike

Can’t wait to put one of those chin-stocks on it.

    • Anonymoose

Just firing it at the range would probably knock everyone’s teeth out around you.

  • roguetechie

There was a very neat semiautomatic 50 caliber rifle that didn’t make it to market awhile ago…

It used the slightly less powerful .50 spotter round, and was built by one of the more prolific .50 caliber rifle designers. It had a very similar forend and general look as well as color scheme.

Kinda glad it didn’t make it to market though, because I sure would miss my left testicle after selling it to science to buy the gun and lots of ammo ….

Aaaannnddd a night force scope because really what’s the f***ing point of having a semiautomatic 50 cal if you don’t have a night force scope?

I guess what I’m saying is the scope actually makes losing a testicle to pay for the ensemble worth it…

In the land of the blind the man with one ball a 50 caliber rifle and an awesome scope is still going to be the coolest guy you know.

    • Giolli Joker

I don’t know about the spotter .50, but it reminds me of the St George Arms Leader 50.

    • PK

I can’t find what you’re talking about. Do you happen to know the company name?

      • roguetechie

PK I’ll look for the old arfcom thread that had most of the information I found.

      • roguetechie

OK the designer is Dennis Cheney and the gun was called the USA50 in .50 spotter.

        • PK

          Thank you!

  • Anonymoose

I expect to see this in Expendables 4.

    • PK

They’re making another one? The more they release, the goofier and more outlandish the guns get. I enjoy that greatly!

  • USMC03Vet

That is one hell of a door knock if I ever saw one.

  • Tom Currie

IF that useless range toy qualifies as a “pistol” or if he even calls it a “pistol” and ever offers to sell one (even if he never finds anyone crazy enough to buy it), that is all BATFE needs for them to ban “Armor Piercing” .50BMG ammo. Remember that is exactly what happened to Russian AK ammo.

  • John

I will give you $20 to fire it just once.

When I was a lad and didn’t understand such things as “laws” and “physics”, I shot a sawed off double barrel 3″ magnum shotgun that was about 18″ total. With one hand, I pulled both triggers at the same time because I was heavily into “Doom” as you may remember and I wanted to earn my “Man Badge”. What I earned was a sprained wrist and the realization that I was not, in fact, a space marine.

    • Tassiebush

that would have ruined my love life at that age!

      • iksnilol

Would still ruin your life nowadays. No hand = can’t eat a sandwich while drinking something with the other hand.

        • Tassiebush

          Absolutely #themundanematters

    • PK

I did that with only a single barrel out of my SBS once without the full stock in place, just to give it a try. I imagine the experience was quite unpleasant to touch off two at the same time… I’ve found that with a hand on the pistol grip and one on the forearm, it’s not bad with any loads – but these days I vastly prefer using the original full stock and both hands!

Two 3″ magnums at once, though, even with the full stock? No, thank you!

    • dltaylor51

When i was a kid a friend of mine put the buttock of a 20ga.single shot to his crouch and touched it off to show how tough he was, after about 30sec of silence he said ”SOB I cant believe i did that,i think i seriously hurt myself down there” and this kid never used swear words.

  • IndyToddrick

He was not even wearing gloves. Crazy guy.

  • jerry young

I’d give it a go although this thing is as big as a short carbine and he’s holding it like a sawed off shotgun, if you put a stock on it it would be a short carbine, still bad ass and looks like something I would enjoy shooting!

  • Rooftop Voter

Oh great, I just finished a run of reloads for the 29″ barrel M82! Now I have to reconfigure for this??

  • Oh, good– yet another goddamn Nazi supporter gun company; the Safety Harbor company logo is a DAK insignia, in case anyone was wondering.

With an Axis of friends like these, the Second Amendment doesn’t need enemies.

    • PK

What are you talking about? SHF in this style in no way resembles anything like a palm tree with a swastika, thankfully. This is directly from SHF’s website.

      • The logo on the shirt he’s wearing in the video, which is in the
thumbnail image for the Youtube link. There is an exactly
zero-point-nothing percent chance this is accidental.

        http://i.imgur.com/Re6cpBL.png

        • PK

Oh. Yikes, yes, the similarity is disconcerting for sure. If that wasn’t intentional, it’s one heck of a screw-up.

    • I seriously doubt that was the intent.

      • Go back and look at the Jpeg that got deleted here, comparing the SHF palm tree logo from the shirt in the video with the DAK palm tree insignia; it is patently obvious that the HSF logo was straight up traced directly from the original, the breaks in the fronds are even in the same place. Whoever made that design knew exactly what they were tracing– it’s kinda hard to miss the swastika in the middle. What sort of intent do you honestly think they had? What sort of intent do you think an already Bill Of Rights-hostile national news media would read into it if some scumbag used an SHF product in a high profile shooting incident, and what sort of story do you think The Mainstream would run with about how that reflects on every peaceable and law-abiding gun owner in America?

Everyone in the firearm-owning community has an obligation to stop defending creeps like this, out of basic self preservation– it’s just a matter of time until they put all of us in the wringer by associaton.

        • jcitizen

I love it! I’m not a Nazi, I just like anything that has the slightest thing to do with DAK – especially if it is desert colors.

  • Bob

Too bad. Lengthen the barrel, put a stock on it and I might be interested.

  • Dan Hermann

Bad idea. Now that the .50 can be fired in a pistol the feds will outlaw any .50 armor piercing type of ammo. Thanks a lot.

    • Leigh Rich

Silly reply Dan, Already outlawed in several states. Armor piercing ammo is ban in the USA.

  • Mike Lashewitz

    All in good fun!

  • jcitizen

When we were in the Army during desert storm era, we liked palm tree symbology, but of course we didn’t have swastikas either. I figure if it helps the morale – why not? I’m not a Nazi reactionary anyway. I’m not afraid of symbology, it can’t break my bones. Sensitivity is good I suppose, for PR things, but I get tired of PC crap. Good grief! – the PC police tried to ban Gadsen flags for the Naval forces for cripes sake! Just because some idiots ruin a symbol we got to stop using them? Not gonna happen!!! I feel the same way for the old Confederate battle flag – when we were kids it was simply a symbol of American rebelliousness, not a hate symbol at all. I greatly regret my nieces and nephews will not get to enjoy the refreshing symbols of our history the way we did, when we were kids.

  • Leigh Rich

I have an 18″ 50BMG Shorty. More blast and compression than anything. Recoil alike a 12GA

  • dltaylor51

Shooting 50 BMGs is fun but not that 50.

  • Mike

Wait one minute… This needs to be either a SBR or an AOW because of the difference in how rifle and pistol calibers are measured.. If this is being sold as a “pistol” each one is actually an unregistered AOW.
