IWI US Now Shipping Galil ACE CAP39-II, Fixed Full Auto Issue

Galil ACE GAP 39-II

IWI US announced the company is now shipping the new Galil ACE CAP39-II pistol. The first pistols are being shipped to owners of the original CAP39 handguns followed by wholesale distributors. Complete Galil ACE rifles should begin shipping in the next few weeks. Within the next 60 days, the company also expects to begin shipping the CAP39-II pistols with the arm brace.

For those not familiar with the case, IWI US undertook a voluntary recall of all Galil ACE CAP39 pistols when the company realized the receivers used had three pin holes that would allow the installation of a full auto fire control group. Since this would likely cause the pistols to be classified as a National Firearms Act (NFA) item, the company recalled the guns in late 2015.

The new GAP39-II pistols use a two pin fire control group that eliminates the potential NFA issue.

The Galil ACE pistol is based on the original Galil assault rifle that was inspired by the AK and Valmet RK 62 platforms. The receivers are milled steel with a reciprocating charging handle on the left side of the gun.

The guns are chambered in 7.62×39 and use standard AK-pattern magazines. These ship with a Magpul MOE AK magazine. Guns have adjustable sights with a front tritium post. Additionally, the top of the receiver has a Picatinny rail for the addition of an optic.

IWI US uses a cold hammer forged 8.3″ barrel that is chrome lined. The MSRP is $1,749.

  • I’m curious about things like this, but then I look at the price tag and just can’t see a point.

    • J.T.

Ya. I could go for it at $1000, but not $1750.

  • Joe

Neat, looking forward to the TFBTV review and a compare/contrast with other AK platforms.
It needs to really excel for that price point.

    • Twilight sparkle

It’s not any different than the other galil ace… Just no third hole this time

      • PK

Well, nuts. Aside from the legality, I do love a good safety sear. If it weren’t for the NFA, I can’t imagine many semi-autos would lack such a device to prevent the hammer from falling before the bolt is locked or fully closed if it’s blowback.

If I recall correctly, the third hole didn’t have any sort of sear and was just a bare pin welded/brazed into place on the last batch?

    • PK

To be fair, the factory Galils are fantastic rifles not truly comparable to Century AKs or the like. It’s like saying that LMT ARs are overpriced at $1,400+ since Anderson ARs can be had for $500 or so.

  • KestrelBike

SOB that’s expensive for no stock. I understand NFA requirements, but it’d be cool if they had a program/rebate deal where you could send away for a heavily-discounted stock once you got your stamp back.

    • Anonymoose

And someone needs to make a standard mil-spec tube adapter since the regular Galil ACE stocks use that weird proprietary triangle thing.

  • Big Daddy

Sorry for that price I’l stay with my Mutant. It’s much more accurate than any AK I’ve shot. And I customized it the way i like my ARs. If it had a bolt hold open it’d be perfect.

    • Richard

I would settle for a side charging upper

    • Harry’s Holsters

The Mutant is better for my uses also, but it’s hard to beat having another cool gun on the market!

    • Reef Blastbody

There’s Croatian magazines that have a follower that holds the bolt open on the last round, though it still closes when you change magazines.

      • iksnilol

You can use the safety to hold the bolt open if you cut a notch in it.

When you run dry, put it on safe, pop in new mag and then take it off safe. How practical that is I don’t know though.

  • andrey kireev

When is a full size rifle coming ? It’s supposed to come out last year….

    • L Cavendish

says in a few weeks…I was looking for that as well..
“Complete Galil ACE rifles should begin shipping in the next few weeks.”- in first paragraph.

      • andrey kireev

awesome, thanks for looking into it =)

  • Cal.Bar

So…. did they run it past LEGAL THIS time?

  • Joe Goins

Off topic, but does anyone know why IWI decided to use a different longer plastic chassis for the civilian X95 than they do for the LE/MIL X95? I was wanting to SBR it, and now I can’t.

    • charlesrhamilton

To make it legal for the civilian market.

      • Joe Goins

They could have used an 18/20″ barrel.

  • thedonn007

Just in time to buy one and form 1 it before the law changes.

  • Martin Grønsdal

I get the rear sight, but I can’t understand the front sight. Why not a circle that will ‘fit’ the rear aperture, like HK
