Wilson Combat continues its rapid expansion away from its 1911 roots, this time with another entry into the suppressor market. The new “Whisper” suppressor series is oriented for those who detest the weight on the front of their gun. Using “corrosion proof” titanium, Wilson Combat manages to get the Whisper down to 17.8 ounces (for reference, the lightweight SilencerCo Omega we reviewed is 14 ounces in direct thread configuration).

The Whisper is announced in four bore diameters with two thread pitches (common 1/2 x 28 and 5/8 x 24 threads).

While the weight is kept to a minimum, the can is relatively large. Outside diameter is listed at 1.875″ and length is nearly 6.5″ inches (6 & 5/16 to be exact) but some of that is reduced to 4.5″ additional length over an A2 bird cage.

The Whisper series interfaces with a Melonite treated “Rapid Thread” muzzle brake in either of the listed thread pitches. Wilson recommends a .740″ OD shoulder for the barrel to ensure a solid lock-up.

Retail is set at $1,195. The can is available in a standard bead-blasted bare titanium finish. For those looking for colors, an additional $50 gets you Wilson’s Armor-Tuff coating in black, OD green, FDE, or desert tan.
