Dead Air Announces Comblock “Kalashnikov Optimized” Suppressor

With a rather coy announcement and single photo teaser-only, Dead Air Armament has announced the upcoming release of a suppressor designed for ComBlock weapons. Designed to look the part, the new can is purported to feature modern baffle design in a communist-design inspired housing.

The housing is based on the PBS-01 (Pribor Beschumnoy Strelby for those wanting detailed names) suppressor, originally designed for the 7.62×39 chambered AK-47. It was relatively quickly supplanted by further PBS designes including 2-5 which Nathanial F covers in some detail on the history of the 5.45.

Recoil juxtaposed the original can to the offered Dead Air suppressor.

Recoil was able to pry a few extra details from the Dead Air team including that the can would be compatible with AK-47 (7.62×39 mm) and AK-74 (5.45 weapons) and “available in common AK thread patterns”. While safe to assume 14×1 LH, other permutations are not guaranteed.

Recoil quoted Gary Huges of Dead Air:

At Dead Air we have always loved the AK. We wanted to build a silencer as tough as the gun it was intended for, that was thoroughly modern inside, and optimized for the unique challenges suppressing the Kalashnikov has always presented. We also wanted to keep the classic “Kalash” look, so it would be equally at home on a purists rifle as well as have performance that will make it a must have for some of the more modern takes on the platform.

Other details are scant and not forthcoming. We will likely see one and go hands-on at the NRA show in May, especially as many of the writers truly enjoy AK-based weapons.
