Browning has announced the release of their “Sound Shield” combination shooting glasses and ear plugs. Seeing an obvious need to help shooters like me who often forget one or the other or perhaps making it even easier for me to forget both, the Sound Shield combines a impact rated glasses with in-ear three-cup protection.
The glasses feature a fashionable frameless lens design to offset the nifty if kind of ugly on-unit storage cases for the ear protection. The ear plugs are attached directly to the frame through a lanyard, which is easily retractable using a small tab.
For protection, the lenses are rated to ANSI Z87.1 impact and the ear plugs have a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 25dB. To put the dB in perspective, its about a 400% drop in noise.
The glasses will be available in a few configurations with both large and medium sizes for men. For women, there is only listed a “For Her” size which uses an indoor-outdoor lens with a fushcia (pink for us men) colored temple. Interestingly, the yellow shooting lens will only be available in the large sizes. Why Browning made this decision, I do not know…
Suggested retail pricing is $29.99 for a single pair of Sound Shield glasses. Replacement earplugs is $19.99 for a 12-pack.
