Schrade’s Knife/Slingshot Combo

P18161912

Taylor Brands annouced a pretty unique item today from Schrade: Their new “Guide Master Sling Shot Full Tang Fixed Blade Knife”.  For a shorter moniker, SCHF39 is the model number.  What caught my attention was the fact that the knife’s sheath has a built in slingshot, spring loaded BB magazine, 2 sharpeners, a ferro rod, and a storage compartment.  The blade is made of 8Cr13MoV steel, which is good material for the value.

Having grown up in the era when the “Rambo” knives with the removable compass attached to a hollow handle were pretty common, I am sure my juvenile self would have carried this knife.  Of course, that was back in the days before draconian “zero tolerance” policies!

SCHF39EntireandComponents

Despite looking somewhat gimmicky, the SCHF39 could be quite useful for someone looking to purchase a good starter kit for camping or hiking, as this knife and sheath weigh only 1/2lb, and provide many useful tools in one package for only $70.00 MSRP.

For more information, a demonstration/promotional video is available below.  I will add that it looks from the video like one needs to take care not to cut the slingshot tubing when placing the knife back in its sheath.

From Taylor Brands:

The innovative Schrade model SCHF39, serving up form and function in a fixed-blade knife with built-in slingshot, spring-loaded ball-bearing ammo magazine, sharpening stones,
New Schrade model SCHF39 affords in-the-field versatility with knife, slingshot, ammo and sharpening stones in a self-contained unit. The removable Ferro rod and ABS sheath, were a hit among a variety of customers.

I bought a Shrade combo pack containing a multi-tool and a folding knife. For the price ($25), the knife was one of the best I have owned. I ended up losing the dang thing at work one day. Sucks. I really wanted to see how the knife held up long-term.

The slingshot in the sheath is pretty cool but not unique. The AITOR Jungle King III has had this feature (since the 80’s?).

Awesome nostalgia. I had one of those compass pommel survival knives as a kid. I quite like this idea but it’d be even cooler if a flat band version was made so it had more power.

    I thought I could even, but I can’t.

This is an 80’s kid’s dream come true.
