Sierra Bullets recently introduced several new rifle bullets for handloaders. Here is a quick run down on them.

The first new rifle bullet from Sierra is a .243 caliber (6mm) Tipped MatchKing bullet. The Tipped MatchKing is a polymer-tipped version of the company’s highly acclaimed MatchKing line. It is designed for accuracy, not expansion, so it is better suited for accuracy competitions, and not ideal for hunting applications.

The new .243 caliber bullet has a weight of 95 grains and a stated ballistic coefficient of .500. The company states that this bullet is best used in guns with a barrel twist rate of 1:9″ or faster to stabilize it.

A new .264 caliber (6.5mm) bullet is the next new projectile. It is also a Tipped MatchKing. This one weighs 130 grains and is recommended for barrels with a 1:8″ twist or faster. It has a stated BC of .535.

A third new bullet is a .284 caliber (7mm) bullet. It is a 160 grain Tipped MatchKing. It has no special twist rate recommendations. Sierra provides its BC as .615. This is the second 7mm bullet introduced recently. The other was a 183 grain MatchKing.

The final introduction is a .308 caliber Varminter. This bullet is relatively light for the caliber at 135 grains. Unlike the above bullets, this one is designed to expand and is suitable for hunting predators and varmints.
