Vorn USA’s Lima 1 LW Forged Lower

Vorn – USA, a relative newcomer to the industry (established in 2012) has released a milled forged AR-15 lower receiver. As a forged receiver, the Lima 1 is a strong entry into the lightweight AR market dominated by polymer, magnesium, and billet construction (like the awesome 2A Armament Balios set)

Forged receivers are stronger than their billet cousins due to the way the aluminum is processed during forging. Strength gains are relative (as billet is commonly thicker), but present especially as the forgings are typically 7076 high-strength aluminum.

Unlike some other LW designs, the Lima 1 is not open to the environment. No holes are punched through in the name of weight savings so the receiver should handle any common AR environment with no performance change.

The Lima 1 is offered in both stand-alone and as a matched set with a standard forged upper receiver. Color options abound with most of the standard Cerakote colors available including Magpul FDE, OD, Tungsten, Burnt Bronze, and then the plethora of custom colors (Contact Vorn for details on the custom receivers).

Pricing starts at surprisingly low $99 (considering the machine time) for the stripped lower in either black anodized or customers can opt for a raw aluminum finish if they are going to further machine or finish the receivers themselves. Cerakote is typically a $30 adder.
