[SHOT 2016]: What’s new at ZEV Technologies

ZEV Technologies, a Glock customization shop, had a lot of new things on display for 2016.  The first thing I took a look at were their new stainless steel slides in a “Prize Fighter” and “Hex” cut.  I really liked the feel of the Hex cut, as it gave more purchase on the slide for charging. They also now offer slides for gen 3 and 4 Glocks.

As far as their barrels went, they are now threading 9×19 barrels in-house.  They also have a new “Pro” barrel that is threaded but has a normal barrel profile for lower cost, as opposed to their dimpled or fluted barrels.  They have a new grey finish for their barrels as well.P1211263

ZEV has been very forward thinking in the past as far as mounting optics on the slide, and there are some new things in that arena for this year as well.  Two new coverplates were seen:  a new aluminum coverplate and a very neat carbon fiber prototype.  They also have a patented slide cut and mount for the Leupold DeltaPoint that features a miniature rear sight built in to co-witness with the front sight.  A new dimpled aluminum backplate also looked very good on the Glock.

Also new this year are a +5 capacity basepad for Magpul GL9 PMAGs and one for factory Glock mags as well.

Thanks to ZEV Technologies for their time!

Way too cool guy for me. When you buy a ZEV does it come with a gold chain?

So… For $42 baseplate + $15 for the pmag… OR… $20 for the 21 or 27 round pmag, yea, not sure about your business case there Zev.

I have to hand it to them…they definitely jazz up what is otherwise a very boring gun.

Does any of it (besides the optic cuts) actually add much to the utility of the gun? Doesn’t look like it but it’s not my money being spent.

    • Bill

Of course it doesn’t. One of the reasons GLOCKs are boring, along with plain SIGs and M&Ps, is that you can take one out of the box and it works just fine.

  • Sam

Man, can they do some CZ stuff, too!? This stuff looks cool… but it’s still a Block.

  • Orion Quach

So they are brining Gen 4 slides out soon? Or eventually?

    • Rusty S.

Yes, they have them now, as I noted in the article.

      • Orion Quach

I asked cause I went to order a socom slide after reading this but they haven’t put them up yet for Gen4. I was asking in regards to how soon I’m going to be able to order one.

        • Rusty S.

Give them a call next week and ask for a new build sheet. They should be all set to go as far as I know. Enjoy your slide!

      Strip out the screw heads?

      • pithy

LOL. Cosmetic modification is more important than anything else, of course.

I really like the grip texture on the hex version. Anyone know how they made the stippling so small and perfect?

  • Edeco

Hex-dimpled slide plate? Pfft. I’ll keep my peace-sign one thanks. The approx. 2mm-wide white-paint matches the U-shape on the factory rear sight.
