[SHOT 2016] CMC Triggers’ AK Modular Drop-in Trigger

As Ray I. recently reported, CMC Triggers Corp. has been working on a drop-in modular trigger unit for the AK.  I had the chance both to try the trigger at the range day and examine one in operation at CMC’s SHOT booth.  As far as shooting impressions on the range go, I left with a very favorable impression of the trigger.  It had a crisp, light break, and none of the slap of a stock AK trigger.  Reset was extremely short, and though I did not have a shot timer with me (it wouldn’t have been very useful at range day anyway) I am certain my split times between shots were faster than even with my personal AKs that I have done trigger work on.  Being that the trigger is modular, you can pick and choose from a flat bow, an AK profile bow, and an AR15 profile bow.

At the booth, I got to see more of the internals of the trigger.  The receiver pins are isolated from the pivot points of the trigger and hammer, so as to be able to fit multiple AK variants while still being able to function.  The housing will most likely come to distributors in machined 7075 aluminum form, though forged examples were also seen at the show.  The rocket wire spring is a definite improvement over the usual greasy stranded wire that can be found on either side of an AK hammer.  The trigger is tensioned via set screws once installed.  Overall, I look forward to throwing one of these in one of my AKs and running it through the ringer.   If you want to see more pictures of the CMC AK trigger, check out CMC’s facebook page.
