[SHOT 2016] UTM’s Civilian Target Ammunition

P1191096

Ultimate Training Munitions, or UTM, has a new product that’s available for sale direct to civilian consumers-Their Civilian Target Ammunition, or CTA.  CTA ammunition works by simply replacing one’s AR-15 Bolt or one’s pistol slide and barrel, and is intended for use in environments and situations that might not be conducive to training with lethal ammunition.  The plastic projectile weighs “less than 1 gram”, and has a velocity of 375 fps out of an AR-15.  It’s noise level is relatively low at 113DB, it does not use gunpowder, just their dual-primer system to cycle the bolt and propel the projectile.  Apparently, it is capable of 1.18″ groups at 32 yards.  Because of the projectile’s short and non-lethal trajectory, one could practice firing at angles that might otherwise be unsafe, or use them in a plywood shoot house with no possibility of a lethal shoot-through.  It is also a non-toxic, lead free training option.

Another point UTM’s reps brought up to me is that it might be an ideal round to train a beginning shooter with, as close-range accuracy results can be seen on paper, while still using a non-lethal round that is relatively quiet out of an AR-15.  Weapon handling and malfunction clearing drills can also be performed with these rounds.  The UTM CTA conversion kit can work with standard magazines as well.  The bolt is uniquely safe in that it uses an offset firing pin that will not contact the primer of a live centerfire round.  For more information, please visit https://www.utmworldwide.com/civilian-target-ammunition/.

Im guessing a box of 50 rds is $200.

EDIT: 50 rds are $32.50 but the BCG is $329.

HOLY JESUS. WTF is it made out of? Gold?

      • TheNotoriousIUD

        Baby seal bones.

        • Anonymoose

The Russians have trained their seals to be Navy Seals, and they will not stand for this!

Airsoft could be a good alternative to this system.

  • Anonymoose

Oh. I was thinking this was for force-on-force, but now I realize it’s just expensive plastic plinking ammo for house-clearing drills that lack any realism.

  • Cal.Bar

For all those shoot house simulators open to the public? (lol)

  • Lance

Ammo looks the same as Military paint ball training ammo.

Agree with others paintball air soft ammo and air soft guns a much cheaper alternative.

Even comes with a 10-round Pmag! Coming soon to be banned in a California near you!

You can probably still shoot each other with them, its plastic and only going like 375fps

It’ll hurt but probably won’t break skin , paintball is what 300fps and simuntion is like 650fps or around there with a rifle

  • Bill

Actually, it might make civilian training a lot more interesting. When your adversary is actually shooting back, and it hurts a lot, you tend to focus on the basics and the ninja stuff goes out the window.

I took a simunitions round to the arm during an exercise through a heavy combat shirt I still wound up with mark that took months to go away..

    • Anonymoose

It doesn’t say that you can shoot someone with this non-lethally. Simunition also makes a plastic “practice” round that can kill you if you accidentally loaded it instead of a regular paint round.

    goodbye airshit, hello CTA
