Ryan B. Flowers of Galac-Tac has been making Boba Fett inspired cosplay armor for a couple years. Here are some photos of his work that have circulated around the internet. It has garnered massive interest in the Airsoft community.

Well now he collaborated with Surefire, SOG Knives & Tools, AR500 Armor, Team Wendy , Armasight, Inc., Wilcox Industries Corp., and TEA Headsets to make a ballistic version of his armor.

Hopefully we will get to see this in person at SHOT Show.

The Star Wars troopers will be jealous when they see this armor.

  • LCON

I think the Desert tech trooper looks cooler, and more practical.

    • Giolli Joker

      KNOX Handroid motorcycle gloves.
      I have them.
Great product for motorcycle riding, really cool, not the best if you want to hold properly a gun (rigid plastic sliders on the palm).

      • LCON

And the Torso is Fox Racing Titan jacket. but at least you can see out the visor of the DT suit vs the little slit of the Boba fett

        • Giolli Joker

Good eye and good point, I agree.
Although I’d assume that if you want to give ballistic protection to the face you have to compromise somewhere.
They could take it to the next level, put rugged sensors outside the helmet, and VR goggles inside.
It’s not going to be military issue anyway, better to dare. 😉

        • Sianmink

Barbutes have had pretty good visibility compared to a lot of equally protective helmets. It’s all a matter of how far from the eyes it is.

          • LCON

This is narrower than a Conventional Barbutes It’s closer to a classic Great Helm with a very wide but useless opening in the center line. Also note the way it ends around the outer orbit like Blinders. by contrast the DT guy’s wearing Snow Goggles. It’s not ballistic but I am betting he sees a lot more

          • Sianmink

It seems to fit much closer (too close to offer any real protection) so it may not be as bad as you think.

          • Hyok Kim

For the future, I don’t think that would be necessarily a disadvantage, considering the rapid progress of electronic optics.

One could put small footprint electronic viewfinder outside the helmet connecting to the monitor inside the helmet.

Not only that the outside viewfinder could have built-in ‘weld’ for the gun optics so that one could have ultra secure hold on the POA.

In fact, if the weapon has other mount/weld on the body of the shooter, the shooter could have permanent co-witness his aiming point whatever angle he’s looking at, shooting on demand with a remote trigger device.

        • Xanderbach

As a Mandalorian Mercs cosplayer, I have to say you can see surprisingly well out of the mandalorian helmet. The wider view port of the “tactical” model in this article would make it even better. You should try wearing a stormtrooper helmet- It’s no wonder they couldn’t hit anything.

    • Tuulos

I just find it funny that Desert Tech comes up with an armor that seems to guarantee a heat stroke to the user if it’s used in a desert.

      • Daisuke0222

Nah, there’s a teeny tiny Mitsubishi AC unit in that suit.

      • Dan

Obviously your not familiar with the Devtronic Cooling System embedded in each of the armor plate leaves…..

      • Hyok Kim

Not if they use a lot of insulation.

  • Riot

That bone white shot looks cool.

  • Major Tom

If it can’t stop a blaster bolt or a lightsaber you’re wasting my time.

    • Grindstone50k

Even Imperial Knights only had gauntlets made of cortosis, not the full suit.

  • Captain Obvious

The civilian arms race is on. Won’t be able to walk down the street without wearing some sort of designer armor.

  • Josh

As a star wars fan… geeking out just a little here

  • kipy

Whole lot of good it’ll do you when you trip and fall in a Sarlacc pit.

    • Anonymoose

      Needs moar jetpack.

  • Andrew Duffey

Devtac is going to be showcasing there Ronin helmet at Armour Wear’s at SHOT Show booth too.

    • Dracon1201

Does it come in COG colors?

      • LCON

Seems more like a product better suited to Army of two to me.

  • A.WChuck

I see lots of “bullet traps” in the helmet. Count me out.

  • smartacus

yeah but whut happenz when it goes out of style?

    • DIR911911 .

star wars? . . .out of style? . . . are you new to this planet?

      • smartacus

now that STAR WARS is owned by Disney

        • Steve

          Smartacus, more like dumbassicus

          • smartacus

Please keep your sexuality to yourself, you Disney Defender.

    • HiPowerGuy

C’mon now, that would be like……………James Bond going out of style….hahahaha….just not gonna happen. 🙂 Although, this is ONE fantasy, that can possibly be made into reality. Lot of redesign and work, but possible. I think…:-)

      • smartacus

hahaha, James Bond just happens to be on the verge of going out of style. They are planning on the next James Bond being Idris Elba or some nobody.

        • HiPowerGuy

Hahahaha NAH…I read that crap somewhere also, but I think it was a joke. Has to be :-).

  • coco

Who the heck are Mandalorians? Bet some kind of godless commies.

    • Ian

They were a warrior race who nearly defeated gun grabbing jedis several times ovet millennia of war.

      • Yimmy

They were protectors of 2nd galactic agreement ensuring freedom and blaster weapons for all.

        • Lt. Greyman, NVA

Until the Dark Days…until the Empire.

      • Grindstone50k

Not so much a “race” as they are a culture.

  • Dracon1201

I can only hope to be as cool as this guy when I grow up!

  • SP mclaughlin

    “You’re worth enough dead”

  • Edeco

OK, now do the corrugated muscle armor from Bram Stoker’s Dracula in ballistic plate.

  • Lance

Star Wars craze went too far.

  • Nick

The Disney lawyers are firing up their Star Destroyers.

    • mosinman

“We can’t repel a Legal Team of that magnitude!!”

    • M40

If they go after the cosplay folks, they’d lose their biggest fans, and a LOT of what amounts to free advertising.

  • LazyReader

    HK, more like Merr-Sonn Munitions

  • Southpaw89

Needs to be carrying a sterling.

  • mosinman

call me when they make a Stormtrooper version

    • Evan

Ooh, I want the Darth Vader version, complete with tactical ballistic cape.

      • mosinman

        one can dream

      • Hyok Kim

Darth Vader version, doesn’t look very practical.

    • Grindstone50k

I’m already a terrible shot, just give me white armor.

      • mosinman

Hey! good thinking! That could be another excuse i could use

  • BrandonAKsALot

My god…. I need to lie down. Give him a damned fancy Kobalt Kinetics AR already! If this comes to market and the commercial isn’t someone riding a bomb down to a planet, I’m going to be pissed. The future is now!

  • Rocketman

Damn, that’s a bad ass looking helmet! If you made it with graphene and included a sound amplifier with automatic cut off for loud noises and an 1x-3x variable telescopic sight built into the front part of the helmet so who ever was wearing it to scan the terrain at long range you would have a real winner.

    • HiPowerGuy

Hmmm pretty interesting thoughts there, has it been done before, to your knowledge?

  • Daisuke0222

I think that’s friggin’ awesome. Probably impractical as hell, but awesome nonetheless.

    • HiPowerGuy

I agree, but, with some MAJOR redesign, it could possibly be made to work. IT is pretty bad ass looking though :-). But for the coolness factor, many spots left under and un-protected. But, could more than likely be fixed. I would think expensive as hell for the first 1,000 units. 🙂

  • randomguy01

My big question is, how bad do they fog up?

    • Hyok Kim

Good question. They should have some kind of humidity controlling mechanism inside the helmet.

  • Wingbert

    cheek weld?

    • John1943

A term to indicate that, for accuracy, you must hold the stock against your face (or the other way around) very firmly and precisely positioned. Obtaining and replicating a good cheek weld is of paramount importance.

      • Hyok Kim

Why can’t they have a built-in weapon mount at several different points?

Such as, optics mounting with the sensor outside the helmet, connecting the sensor with the monitor inside the helmet?

also, to be complemented by other mounting points on the body armor, built to be move at angles through sockets?

        • John1943

Ah, then you need the remote sighting option. In that case, you could prop the firearm up and use it remotely. If it is a recoil producing weapon, you would also need the axiomatic recoil cancel option, but a phaser is not affected that way.

  • Treyh007

So is this what y’all mean when y’all say “Tacticool”……..?

  • Evan

Try getting good cheek weld with that thing on.

    • John1943

There are several big rare earth magnets in the stock, and more in exactly the right places in the helmet. Whenever these get within 6″ or so, they snap together in exactly the right place. However, there have been reports of broken necks from the impact and you have to completely remove the helmet and use liquid nitrogen to remove the weapon from it when you get the cease fire.

  • Winter

Not bad but it needs more cowbell. *cue Don’t Fear The Reaper*

Try and get that out of your head womprats.

    • HiPowerGuy

      YESSSS….that is IT…MORE COWBELL!!! hahahahaha 🙂

  • Hyok Kim

Modular exo skeleton armor with built-in humidity. hvac, air purification system would be the next step.

  • Fadaldude

    Beskar A500 is NOT. Hhhmmm???

  • itsmefool

    Cheek weld?

  • Mikial

Okay, this stuff’s cool. Where i do sign up to be notified when it’s available?

  • Mikial

Wow, awesome trailer. I take it that it never became a film.

  • steveday72

Nick – AFAIK the armor is just a one-off. They are not going to manufacture and sell it.

    • kyphe

meh link was blocked to their home site but it is easy to search Glac-tac and see they have been selling the cosplay version for a while

  • kyphe

Disney would not have a case, this is clearly inspired by not a copy of. there is no copyright on derivative work. Ofc just because they do not have a case does not mean their lawyers could not tie them up in courts for 15 years

  • Jon Hein

He killed the Sarlacc in the process…

Back to the topic of the armor in the article, I WANT!!! TAKE MY MONEY!!!

  • Sid

Interesting.. It looks like one helmet he’s using is a Team Wendy, and the other OPS Core, based on the railing systems I see.
