Lightning Gear Review: RamRodz Shotgun and Barrel Cleaners

Expanding on an already impressive product line, RamRodz now offers their RamRodz Barrel and Breech Cleaners sized for 12 and 20 gauge barrels.  Like other RamRodz, the Shotgun sized Barrel and Breech cleaners feature industrial grade, low-lint cotton and bamboo handles. The RamRodz Shotgun and Barrel Cleaners include an adapter that mates the RamRod with a standard cleaning rod.

12 Gauge RamRodz Shotgun and Barrel Cleaner, and cleaning rod adapter.

Key Features of the RamRodz Shotgun and Barrel Cleaners include:

    • RamRodz Shotgun and Barrel Cleaners come in 12 and 20 gauge sizes
    • 20 gauge package includes 80 pieces. 12 gauge package includes 60 pieces. Both come with cleaning rod adapter
    • RamRodz Barrel and Breech Cleaners are made of low-lint industrial grade cotton that will not shed cotton into the firearm. The industrial grade cotton acts as a minor abrasive.
    • The bamboo handles have been shortened to 3 inches on the RamRodz Shotgun and Barrel Cleaners.

12 gauge and 20 gauge RamRod. Note the shorter bamboo handle.

For testing purposes I took my 12 gauge Ruger Red Label shotgun and shot several dozen clay pigeons. After fouling the breech and barrel I came straight home, opened the RamRodz Shotgun and Barrel Cleaner packet, and got to work.

Getting ready to ready to douse the RamRod with some M-Pro 7.

After applying a generous amount of M-Pro 7 to the RamRod, I made several passes through both barrels and let the M-Pro 7 work on the carbon in the barrels for several minutes.

After letting the M-Pro 7 sit in the barrel for several minutes, I made several dozen passes with the RamRod swab until the bore was clean. What is neat about this product, is that after several passes you can peel off some of the soiled cotton and continue to use the swab. For cleaning I only needed 3 RamRodz swabs. Cleaning time was around 10 minutes, including the time letting the M-Pro 7 sit in the barrel.

    Final Thoughts

This is the third time that I have reviewed a RamRodz product. RamRodz products simply work. Since I have started using RamRodz products my cleaning times have been greatly reduced and I have no need for cleaning patches. RamRodz allow me to quickly and thoroughly clean my firearms, and I see no point in using anything else.

My other RamRodz reviews can be found here and here.

Thank you RamRodz for providing The Firearm Blog with a test sample. As always, tips, questions, gripes, and humor are welcome in the comments below.
