Magpul Now Shipping 10 Round AK MOE Mags

magpul-moe-ak-47-10-rd-mag

Magpul just released their new 10 round PMAG 10 AK/AKM MOE 7.62x39mm Magazines. Their lightweight and budget friendly 10 round mags fit pretty much all Kalashnikov pattern rifles and pistols chambered in 7.62x39mm, including the AK-47, AKM variants, AKS, Yugo AKs and the SIG556R. Just like with their 30 round AK/AKM MOE magazines their shorter 10 round versions are made out of impact and crush resistant polymer bodies and feature a removable floor plate that’s flared for better handling and a low-friction anti-tilt, self-lubricating follower for increased reliability as well as a stainless steel spring. It weights in at just 4 ounces and is only 4.8 inches in length. The 10 round PMAG 10 AK/AKM MOE magazine also counts as three US compliant parts for 922r purposes.

It’s essentially a shorter version of their 30 round AK/AKM MOE magazines, so no stainless steel rear locking lug and reinforced front lug and spine like with their new AK/AKM Gen M3 magazines unfortunately. However I’ve used their first generation AK/AKM MOE magazines extensively and I haven’t had any issues with them. Why would someone need only a 10 round mag you ask? 10 round mags are easier to use when shooting in prone with a bipod or off a shooting bench. Also there’s states like California that restrict magazine capacities to just 10 rounds.

As with all Magpul’s PMAGs they’re made right here in the USA, they’re available only in black and retail for just $12.95 at Magpul.com. Rumor has it Magpul will be releasing a 5.45 version of their MOE mags at the 2016 SHOT Show coming up in January.

If they released a 5 rounder that would be great for hunting. A steel chinese 5 rounder costs something around 40-60 dollars depending on where you find it. Looks cool though.

    • Jeff Smith

Agreed! I picked one up at a local gun shop for $10, but it took some work with a file to get it to fit my gun. It’s still a snug fit, but it’s nice for shooting off a bench and legal for hunting.

    • iksnilol

You could get a 10 rounder and limit it to 5 rounds.

      • Zugunder

But why you would do that? You’ll get 5 rounder with dimensions of a 10 rounder. I assume he wants 5 rounder because of its size. Maybe there some restrictions to hunting with 5 founders? I don’t know US laws.

        • iksnilol

He probably wants it for hunting restrictions.

Point is, it’s easier and cheaper to get a 10 rounder and limit it to 5 than it is to get a factory 5 rounder.

          • Zugunder

Ah, ok then. That thing with 10 rounders being cheaper than 5 rounders is new to me.

          • Martin Grønsdal

the 5-rounders that are accepting 10 rounds are the most expensive….

        • Phil Hsueh

I don’t hunt but I believe that there are laws here that restrict ammo capacity on a rifle to just 5 rounds. I’m not sure the law is worded exactly but I imagine that it requires you use an actual 5 round mag and not just short load a higher capacity mag.

    • Jason Lewis

Tapco makes a 5 rounder. Yeah it’s Crapco but they run fine for the range or hunting. I have two of them.

  • Andrew

Wish they would do a 20 in 7.62×39. Been wanting some polymer 20s for my Draco pistols, but the Tapcos are so ugly and the ProMags are so crappy.

    • Anon. E Maus

I agree, a ‘tanker’ sized mag (with steel reinforcement) would be just PERFECT for pistols and SBRs.

An M92 with plastic handguards and a tanker mag would be a nice and light little package with plenty of power.

  • notalima

Yay. I’ll pick up a few for bench testing and sighting for new builds.

  • UCSPanther

These would be perfect with those AK-based hunting rifles that strongly resemble the SAFN 49…

  • Phil Hsueh

Now if they’d just make 10/30 mag I’d be happy. I realize that it’s kind of silly to have 10 round mag that’s the size of a full 30 round mag but I just don’t like the way 10 round mags look and a factory Magpul 10/30 would be really nice to have.

  • Devil_Doc

I was going to come in here and whine about no 5.45 mags, but nevermind…

  • Sledgecrowbar

Finally. This should get my AK project off the ground. Any reviews on how the original AK PMAGs are holding up under use? I remember some bellyaching about how, traditionally, polymer AK mags would get worn out in the feed lips.

  • CavScout

Waiting for 5.45×39. That said, would rather sell off all my AK stuff. Sick of dropping stupid money into them for very little gains. Stuff that is a given with other, better modern designs.

  • Jason Lewis

Great for you guys in less than free states.

  • FourString

    CALIFORNIA THANKS YOU

  • Adam

This isn’t just for guys in ban states. The smaller mags are great for shooting off a rest to sight in an optic. I only have 30’s and shooting from a rest is tricky.
