More Considerate Muzzle Flash

If you’ve ever done room entry or building clearing work with long guns and live fire, you can appreciate the idea of redirecting the searing hot gasses spewing from the muzzle of your buddy’s rifle.  The engineering team at Black Rain Ordnance apparently feels the same way.  Introducing the BRO-MFER flash suppressor.

While the MFER does not reduce actual decibels, it does control the direction of the muzzle flash and report.  The idea is to redirect these elements away from nearby shooters, thereby moderating their impact in close quarters.  The BRO-MFER carries the additional benefit of reducing felt recoil on the operator end of the rifle.

Built to last with a Nitride coating, the MFER also features a removable end cap for cleaning.

Threaded for both 5.56 and .308 barrels – 1/2×28 and 5/8×24 – the BRO-MFER lists for $149.  Your battle buddy will thank you.

    So… a kx3 with 100% more cringy company logo

  • mosinman

    do these actually do anything?

    • Kivaari

They do re-direct that chest thumping blast wave. I never liked it. It like being behind a M2 HB. If you are on the grips, it isn’t bad. If you are standing up it is unpleasant.

      • mosinman

        ah good to know

  • TheNotoriousIUD

Im not buying anything called the BRO MFER.

It’s why I use laser based weapons in Fallout 4, Bro!

      why not Plasma?

The blast is one reason we kept using MP5s. This was well before suppressors were so common. Today, with the newer better equipment a 5.56 would be fine. A diverter is a plus, but a can is better. There is still an advantage for this unit, if you are wearing high quality electronic hearing protection, it’s a good concept. I did notice that with electronic hearing protection if there is lot of noise going on, it cuts you out unless you are using radios woven into the whole package.

      • Cymond

I first read about electronic hearing protection a few years ago. My wife wanted a pair, but we were on a tight budget. They take so long to cut back in after a shot that they’re basically useless at a public firing range.

It would be cool to see some high speed Schlieren video of these devices firing.

    • Sam

Those are some of the sexiest gun images I’ve ever seen.

      • INFI

SAM Just google Schlieren gun photos, you can find vids on how the technique is done and various other awesome things.

    I love the name

I don’t like my battle buddy $149 worth.

Bro!? What, bro? Bro that’s a baaad m’fing piece of gear, bro! I’ma be lookin’ like a BAD MFER on the range, bro!

Real talk, I like these directional muzzle devices. Waiting on my tax stamp so I can assemble my 11.5″ pea shooter, got myself a Spike’s Barking Spider 2… which… is a Krink brake, but whatever.

    • Kivaari

Black Rain Ordnance, I suspect is abbreviated as BRO.

      Boosters are not brakes

  • Jsim

And whats the difference between this and the noveske one that looks the same

  • ClintTorres

If it has an internal chamber, it is a Noveske ripoff. If not, it’s a Kak ripoff. At $145, it’s a ripoff period.

    • BrandonAKsALot

If the Noveske has an internal chamber, it’s a Bulgarian rip off. No one ever has the same ideas as others, everything ever created is wholly original!

Also, if the Bulgarian booster has an internal chamber, it’s a rip off of the Russian bell booster.

      • Kivaari

Even Einstein said he only had one original thought. Good company I suspect.

  • I want someone to develop a flash diverter that can be used in tandem with my current muzzle brake but act as the crush washer and cover the side vents from my brake. 🙂

    • Cymond

I’ve heard that concept somewhere before in the comments on TFB, possibly from you. It’s a simple idea, the only hard part would be getting a wrench on your brake when it’s inside the diverter can.

  • Kivaari

Is that another device within this cone? Or is it just how it is machined, coupled with the angle of the camera?

  • gunsandrockets

“The BRO-MFER carries the additional benefit of reducing felt recoil on the operator end of the rifle.”

Huh? I would think re-directing gas movement to forward would Increase recoil. That device in action is the equivalent of adding a crude rocket exhaust nozzle to the muzzle!

  • Uniform223

I wonder what is (to me) the seemingly dissatisfaction with the A2 flash hider? Everyone seems to want to replace it with the latest most high speed looking piece of thinga-ma-jig. Maybe I am old fashion but I still believe the user makes the shots accurate, NOT the thing and the end of the pipe.

    • Shmoe

It’s basically a simple linear compensator for close quarters shooting around others, nothing new about that. It’s for a specific purpose, and, yes, it doubles as a (ugly) fashion accessory. Nothing wrong with an A2. Though, I would welcome a comparison of effectiveness with other muzzle device (including the A2) across a variety of parameters. Something like what Andrew Tuohy did a ways back; the A2 did rather well, as I recall.

  • Shmoe

Didn’t Chris Cheng do a “preview” of something from Surefire that didn’t look like crap or have stupid name? Granted it was more expensive; way more expensive, if you include the muzzle-break that it attached to (but that probably made it more effective, too).

  • the_duck

Just waiting for the “demilled logo versions” to show up everywhere else for half the price but questionable source 🙂

  • Marc

I’m not going to F my BRO’s M with that.

  • Israel asskissing conservative

Just buy a KX3 or a Bulgarian booster for a product that isn’t crap.
