New S&W M&P Pistols with Threaded Barrels

Smith & Wesson TB

Smith & Wesson is now selling versions of the M&P CORE and M&P Ported 9mm pistols with a threaded barrel. These guns, produced by the Smith & Wesson Performance Center, are full sized pistols, have 17-round magazines and ship with tall, suppressor ready sights installed.

These models ship with both a standard and threaded barrel in the package. The threaded barrel addition adds $175 to the suggested retail price of the guns. Threading is a standard 1/2×28 pitch.

For those not already familiar, the CORE pistols are designed with a slide cut for the easy addition of a red dot optic including the Trijicon RMR, C-More STS and others.

Core pistol I can see. Ported? You’re undoing the suppression value with the blast coming out before you ever get the gasses to the can.

    • Steve Milliron

I’m guessing the ported threaded barrels are intended to be used with a compensator, rather than a suppressor, since the gun they come with is geared more towards competition. Otherwise, yeah, it doesn’t make much sense.

    • Anonymoose

That was my first thought as well.

    • In this case, it is likely that only the slide is ported, not the barrel. The slide ports are merely lightening cuts.

      • ostiariusalpha

Says in the data sheet that it comes with two barrels, one ported and one not. That’s probably why it’s MSRP is $83 higher than the standard ported model.

        • iksnilol

83 dollars for a barrel is cheap. :O

          • ostiariusalpha

It really is. Especially on a gun that might sell well, but not anywhere near the numbers of a standard model.

          • iksnilol

Kinda worth it for just the extra barrel, could possibly fit some sleeve over it if you don’t want the porting or something.

    • tony

niet, the barrel is not ported, only the slide, like Glock 34/35

  • Matt

To clear up confusion, this gun ships with two barrels. One non-threaded ported barrel, and one full size threaded and non-ported barrel.

    • Bill

Ohthankgod – otherwise that was on track to be the dumbest idea of a long period of dumb ideas.

  • Spencerhut

All the C.O.R.E. pistols ship with tall sights. Shipping with two barrels means one is ported and the threaded one is not ported.

make a 15 round 9mm m&p already. so I can take a 17 round m&p and chop the grip to take the 15 round magazines since no firearm company is capable of making a firearm grip to slide size ratio I like

    • Tom Arnold Palmer

That’s a terrible idea. Just take what you have to a gunsmith. I am sure they can do it. They won’t retool a line for one idiotic consumer.

        are you autistic?

        • Tom Arnold Palmer

You think that any company is going to change their weapons for you personally? Furthermore, you believe someone who views that as unrealistic is autistic? Good one.

  • Anonymoose

    Still no .45 CORE, though?

  • INFI

We certainly hope that these do not come with the value added accuracy problems, that have plagued the 9mm M&P pistols for ever.

  • themonkey69

Will they be selling the barrels separately for those of us that already have the pistol?
