Recently Oakley released the new “Light Assault Boot” in black leather. As most of you know we keep track of new Oakley products and I for one am glad. I’ve always been impressed with the quality of Oakley products and especially eyewear after having a pair of Oakley glasses deflect a .22 round off the left lens. Oakley article

This new Light Assault Boot is no exception as far as quality, style and comfort. When these boots arrived I started wearing them and I’ve worn them everyday since. What impressed me right away was the weight or rather the lack of it. This boot only weighs 15.3 ounces! That said you can really tell how light they are when you first take them out of the box and wear them a few minutes.

The boot is comfortable right out of the box and don’t require a break-in period. The boots have an EVA insole which adds to the comfort. These can also be removed or replaced in the unlikely event they need it. This is a 6 inch boot with a heavy elastic piece at the top rear of the boot to provide some give when sitting or driving a car for long periods. There is also extra leather on the toe and heel of the boot to provide better wear over time. This would make an excellent duty boot for police officers, ambulance personnel, firemen and other first responders. As far as I’m concerned they will work well for hunting or just daily wear for those who just like wearing a quality boot.

The sole of the boot has a pattern that was designed to self-clean and not allow debris to stay in the tread. It’s also a non-slip material that won’t slide while walking on wet surfaces. Yes I’ve tried them out!

One other feature to note is this type of leather will take a very good military shine which is an important consideration for first responders who are expected to keep their boots shined and uniform neat.

I fully expect these boots to last me for years and I have no reservation recommending them to others. I did some checking on cost and the MSRP is $169.00. The lowest street price I found was $130.00. These boots are part of the Standard Issue Oakley website. Just click the link at the bottom of the article to go to the SI website.

The Light Assault Boot is also available in rough out suede in 6 inch or 8 inch height.

So… is it a light boot intended for assaults or is it a boot intended for light assaults?

In all seriousness it does look well designed.

    • TheNotoriousIUD

      They’re lightly salted.

      • iksnilol

        Aaah, makes sense.

        • Brett

I prefer mine with a dash of pepper.

      • GearHeadTony

Can’t beat a good dry rub

    • Uh both:-) It is a nice boot for sure.

    • Edeco

I think “modern sporting boot” would be a better term.

    • But does it have a thing that goes up?

      • iksnilol

Damn it, Oakley! How are we going to assault without the thing that goes up?

  • Don Ward

It’s an assault boot because it has a detachable high-capacity clip, flash-suppressor, bayonet lug and pistol grip. Import of these boots has been banned. Watch for ghost assault boots to be produced on 3D printers.

    • john huscio

      3D sewers

    • milesfortis

You forgot the ‘shoulder thing that goes up’, or maybe in this case, the ‘Achilles heel thing that goes up’.

  • Joshua

Single layer stitching wouldn’t last a day in a real combat zone.

  • Edeco

The flared heel looks like it would be a nuissance to me.

  • Vitor Roma

I hate arch support, do those boots have this dreadful thing or they are more minimalist?

    • I’m not wild about heavy arch support either. These have good support but they don’t feel like you have a board pushing up on your arch like some.

  • john huscio

Wonder how these stack up against my scarpa kailashes…..doesn’t look like these have vibram soles…

    • I don’t have any of those so I can’t say. The sole on these is very comfortable and I believe it will stand up to a lot of use.

    • jim

Can’t say for certain about these but their SI Assault Boot has Vibram.

Don’t want to sound like a hater, but I bought a pair of Oakley boots once. The side seam split apart after the 4th time I wore them. Their warranty service was terrible and they never got replaced. Never again. I will say they were light and comfortable all 3 times they didn’t fail. Hopefully their quality has improved.

    • This is my second pair of Oakley boots. The first pair are pretty old and they haven’t had any problems. I imagine I’ll get another couple of years use from them.
You know I think every company has a glitch from time to time. I know we see that in guns and other gear.

      • guest

Agreed. The glitch I could deal with. The terrible service was the problem.

  • Nocternus

I used to work Corrections and would go through boots like nobody’s business. My experience has been that all light weight boots are lacking in the durability department. Buy a pair of Danner Acadia’s they are $300 but I still have the first pair my dad bought me in middle school and they are still going strong. Don’t get fooled by some of the new imports that Danner has slapped their name on get the Made in the USA ones they are a forever purchase.

    • Good boot in that model. Kinda heavy but good quality.

    • Kjk

Ur still wearing the same boots from middle school?

      • Nocternus

Same hunting boots. They are incredibly well made and can be resoled if needed. I bought a second pair for Law Enforcement work in black.

  • MrEllis

Too bad, I was in the market for a Medium Siege Boot and some Strategic Cuff-links.

  • dshield55

    Assault boot?
    Ban Assault boots!

  • dshield55

It has high capacity laces. I count 20 eyes that thing can be laced through.

    • TVOrZ6dw

It may not be California legal…

  • Bill

The Adidas GSG9 rises again. Like black and white police cars, we’ve come full circle.

  • USMC03Vet

I like my Bates GX8. Probably the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn. -20 degree weather with nice boot socks and my feets were still cozy.

  • anomad101

Wearing of “assault” boots will be banned in socialist’s territory. “Light boots” may be sold however, as long as they are not hi kneecap boots. Odor eater inserts are mandatory in California.

  • Kjk

They look like Walmart brand boots

    • All the Raindrops

    • You haven’t been to Wal-Mart and seen the boots they sell have you?

      • Kjk

No, but I assume they’d look like this

  • It probably looks a lot better in person…. from the first image I just can’t get over how much it looks like an orthopedic shoe I would expect to see on a senior citizen.

  • Jeff Heeszel

I prefer heavy assault boots so I can use them like battering rams when I am assaulting,

  • Rob

Sorry to say it but they do look cheap, like 100% Pleather, kind of cheap. And yes, they do have a wal mart look to them.

  • jim

So if you kick someone with them, you get charged with light assault and battery?
