Well known gun writer Ronaldo Olive writes …

This duo of rifles is in current use by Rio de Janeiro’s Military Police BOPE – Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (Special Police Operations Battalion). The 7.52x51mm ArmaLite AR-10 Super SASS is the basic weapon for the “men-in-black” snipers, while the lighter 5.56x45mm Colt CAR-A3 HBAR Elite also uses to be around for occasional, specific (closer range, etc) use. The Super SASS is fed with Lapua .308 SCENAR rounds (167 grains, HPBT).

Their war cry? “Caveira!” (Skull)

Thanks Ronaldo!

Just to complement, a BOPE “M.I.B” with his Super SASS… Ronaldo

Of course I go on duty wearing a shemagh and a skull mask and they send me to the department psychiatrist. Life is so unfair.

I’ve been to Brasil and trained with some of their cops from different agencies – they don’t mess around. Their Olympics are likely going to be pretty safe, assuming you don’t swim into a condom full of hepatitis out in the ocean.

Are those carbine fiber wrapped barrel on the front rifle? If so that is really epic.

Maybe it’s useful for elimate some mirage effect like a anti-mirage band and double as camo wrap ( looks like the rifle in picture is use stainless steel barrel ).
